I don’t really have any good photo’s, but if you have a TJ Maxx, Home Goods/Ross/Marshalls, anything of that sort, they are THE BEST places to browse for random decor. I prefer to do that than shop at most stores just beacuse I can get a really good assortment of random items that look great together.

You need to decide what kind of feel you like, color scheme, etc… are you contemporary or traditional? modern colors or classic? I could give you some ideas of where to start looking if you post some of your inspiration and give us a better idea of what you’re into.

Only buy what you love and it will all work. You can find lots of information online about how to hang artwork etc but only you can decide what you want to look at every day. Pick things that you relate to: pics of your travels, sports you play, family and friends etc.

Don’t feel the need to cover all your walls at the same time. Take time to find the things you love.

We bought a couple of statues that reminded us of the terracotta warriors. I spray painted them teal blue as that is the accent color I wanted. I placed them on a low oriental style chest under a painting of a car that Darling Husband likes. We saw cars like that in Cuba. Next to the statues I placed a jade plant- also a reference to our oriental travels.

You should look through some online sites and mags to see what your style is.  I shop at all different places, my parent’s attic, good will, yard sales and when there is a sale we pick up a new pieces, and we get some things from IKEA.  I had some of my mom’s chairs recovered because they had good bones just dated material.

Check out Wayfair.com – it’s a lot of the same stuff as TJ Maxx & HomeGoods but they have “inspiration” photos. West Elm Crate & Barrel, and Target have similar features, where you can look at a particular room or style and “shop the style” online. You can see how they put the rooms together and it really helps a lot!

I think a general decorating rule is to go for nice, neutral things. For example, if you love the colors blue and yellow, that’s great! But don’t automatically go for blue curtains, yellow wall art, a blue and yellow print rug, matching picture frames, etc. It will be overbearing. Stick with mainly neutral colors and then go from there. Think in terms of accents – larger accents and smaller accents – in 2 to 4 colors.

I find that my taste for decorating tends to be more of a classic modern (if that makes any sense, haha) I love very traditional style of decor in terms of types of furniture and having knick knacks and what not, but I tend to use bold color & modern print. Currently, I am working on a collage wall behind our tv which has a collection of different prints/photos that all involve love themes. My camera won’t work of course but it currently has 6 quote prints on the wall in varying sizes. My most recent pick was a plaque that read, “I have always known it would be you.”  I tend to decorate rooms in themes. Our bedroom is very black, white, & gray with a few blue accents. Our living room is turquoise, gray, and red (looks better than it sounds). Kitchen is blue & yellow, and bathroom is green & blue. My favorite places to shop are HomeGoods, Target & small local shops in the area. I always find my favorite pieces at yard sales!

Sorry this post was so long!! I love decorating!!

I like old Victorian houses and furniture that seems to fit that older classic style with a bit of updating 🙂
