I can’t be the only one who gets angry while watching HGTV’s House Hunters… Only on this show could someone have the audacity to call spending a million+ a budget. Then there are the people who expect every house to be designed and styled especially for them… get real!!! Or the worst of all: “Oh, what a lovely historic home, lets knock out all of the walls and make it an OPEN CONCEPT *goofy crazed smile* !!!”
Ok I’m done ranting… I really did like this show at first but some of the people on it get way too annoying. HGTV, I love you, why must you torture me so?

Have you seen island hunters yet? O.o
I really enjoy House Hunters, so I can look past *most* of the people they have on that show. But Island Hunters was really just to much for me.

Oh they drive me nuts!!!! “Ohhhhh honey…. there’s no crown molding in the dining room…. hm” UHHHH drive to Lowe’s or Home Depot, BUY some, with a nail gun, get a stepladder, CROWN MOLDING!!!! Ok I know it’s not quite that simple 😛 But seriously! They say things all the time about the carpet… the tile… the paint color. All things that can be changed, often fairly easily, by yourself!
I want to reach out and smack them sometimes haha.

You do know it’s all scripted, right? It seems like they pick at little things, but it’s because they have to. All the other work & inspection, approved loan on the house, must be done before the couple is even qualified to go on the show. A lot of times, the other 2 houses are for ‘pretend.’
The couple already has the house or is in the works of the house. The show just shows them going through the ‘process’ of getting the home. That process they already did before the show taped.

I super hate this show. The couples on them have the most unrealistic expectations imaginable and are just annoying. Also, they usually pick the worst choice, in my opinion.
I absolutely LOVE House Hunters International!! I’ll have to check out Island Hunters, lol.

There was a couple on there the other day and the guy didn’t want a house with an old stove and she didn’t want a house with furniture up against the windows. People are seriously dumb as **** sometimes!
The show doesn’t make me mad though, just shake my head and laugh sometimes. I love watching House Hunters International and Island Hunters though!
Hawaii Life on the other hand… lol kidding. I’m just jealous!
ETA: The only thing that really gets to me on that show is when I see a house for a third of what we paid for ours and it’s way bigger, has way more land, a view and totally upgraded. I’m so jealous of everyone who can buy a nice house for under 500k!

@Sunnyday278: Seriously. People bitch about paint colors. PAINT COLORS. GET SOME FUCKING PAINT AND PAINT OVER IT!
The problem is that a lot of the families featured live in areas where housing is very expensive, and then want something new/updated, 5 bedrooms, master suite, etc. Here, that would cost $250k, but other places it’s going to be twice that or more. (Remind me to never move to one of those places, haha.)
I do love House Hunters International, but these people are nuts. They want a “vacation home” in a developing nation and then bitch that something in their price range doesn’t have central air. Dude. You’re lucky it has ceiling fans. STFU.
We had a local guy featured on HHI once–he sold the old mansion he bought here to move to Argentina, and the entire episode was about him. Thirty minutes on the house he bought here and redid and then thirty on him looking at new places. I met the guy in person and he is super annoying (and an ambulance chaser).

@pinkeclipse: You’ve just crashed my world. Do you know if it’s the same for other HGTV shows?

I did hear before that the show is staged. I stil watch it though, especially if its a local episode. I love me some HH international.

@Mrs. Gremmlin: It is that way for most of them 🙁
Post # 12
LOL I am so glad I’m not alone in my hate for these people. You all have already said it all already before me but seriously!!!??! You don’t like that paint color? PAINT OVER IT! You don’t like that they put a table there? GUESS WHAT IT WONT BE THERE WHEN YOU LIVE THERE!
I don’t know if that’s worse or the part where they have a few million to drop on a house in some awesome place and they go oh no, I can’t live in this house, it has carpet (or insert some other stupid thing easily changed especially with a MILLION DOLLARS here).
Wow, I feel better.
ETA: My statements still stand even after learning it’s all staged. Those people probably really do say that kind of stuff anyway! LOL

@givemecouture: Wow! That is super disappointing.

hahaha I like to watch it for the opposite reason–living in a city where real estate costs an arm and a leg, it’s just amazing to me to see people buying ginormous palaces for like 250k or something–that wouldn’t even buy you a studio apt in NYC, but I saw one once where the couple had a huuuge house with a pool in Florida for that

@Mrs. Gremmlin: I just assume so. The entire format of the show with a couple seeing 3 properties in 1-2 days, picking one, then having it automatically accepted– especially if it’s international doesn’t seem realistic.
Buying a home is much more labor intensive, time-consuming, stressful with many more logistics.
I was devastated like you when I found out! (I felt like someone was telling me Santa didn’t exist lol ) But, I still watch because I like shows like this. I just keep in my mind that it’s staged. So, I don’t get so worked up anymore over them being picky about carpet or wallpaper.
Plus, in real life, most people don’t really have the option of being so insanely picky. Heck, even celebreities will buy a home they don’t totally love, and remodel the entire thing to something they desire.
ETA: I mean to say I just assume all the HH’s are staged. I am going to keep thinking all the other HGTV shows are real. lol

I know you all will probably get mad at me for saying this but if you are going to spend a million dollars why should you have to paint, need crown molding, or not have what you want?
I have started house hunting because my Fiance is away. He is very difficult and I dont think we will find one before the end of the years. I dare not say how much of a budget we have to spend because I will definitely get some backlash.
