So, Mr. E and I are house hunting while I am up here this week and I am ready to go completely BONKERS!
A little back story: We both lived in Arizona when we met and began dating. His job has sent him to Salt Lake City (sent him up here in May). Due to not being able to bear being apart and my line of work being portable, he’s convinced me to follow him to Salt Lake. We will be renting because he’s in construction management and for now at least, they send him where the company needs him, anywhere from 6 months to a year per project. So, bottom line, it’s move to Salt Lake or continue being long distance and apart. I’ve given over to the first option.
So being here this week, I’ve been looking for houses while he’s working his behind off. Let me tell you, I have never been so frustrated looking for a rental property in all of my life. We’ve been subjected to scams (thank you Craigslist rental listings), people not returning calls, no follow up, the works. It’s just so frustrating. Yesterday and today, I find myself doing anything BUT looking at houses because the whole process has just been so disappointing. At one point, I thought we’d found the perfect house (it literally backs up to the current job site… literally), it’s gorgeous, 4BR 3.5 bath, beautiful. Only to find out that the owner wants to OCCUPY HALF OF THE GARAGE!!!! WTH???!!!!! Of course, we’re not okay with this at all.
I’m so discouraged, upset, frustrated. Moving here is a compromise for me. I despise snow, and can’t stand to be landlocked (where I was at in AZ I was at most two hours from the beach and right on the Colorado River), but he is most important. I’ll take being landlocked right now. If we could find a bleedin’ house!!!
Anyone else ever have this happen? How long did you look? He was looking for two weeks or better before I came up last week, so we’re three weeks in. I’m so irritated and frustrated that I told him yesterday I’m not making any calls. Ugh!
