I know just how you feel. We have been searching for homes since November! But in those few short months, housing prices started to shoot up and we were getting pushed out of a lot of neighborhoods. I found a house on Zillow that wasn’t anywhere near my MLS search area. We saw it on Friday, all offers were to be in by 5pm that same day. They had 6 other offers and 20+ showings in 2 days! The only reason we were not out bid in this house was because we put more ernest money down with our offer. We actually closed on the house today! While I might not be head over heels in love with the house, it is a fantastic starter home with everything we had been looking for!

Laurenplusalex:  Ugh, it’s horrific,  apparently the inventory is really low right now- everything is going for over asking the day it goes up with multiple offers!  I went to go see a house today that was at the tippy top of our budget and it was like someone had stepped on an ant pile- people everywhere!

Laurenplusalex:  good luck and not to bring you down but its often difficult to get a mortgage on a house without c/o’s and depending on where you live can take months to get them as well as make your taxes go up (depending on what the co is needed for, but usually it is for something that adds value to a home hence the tax increase)

I so feel your pain! We’ve been house hunting since November and it’s been disappointment after disappointment. A lot of the houses for sale in our area are short sales, which are a huge pain in the ass. If they’re not short sales, they’re foreclosures or priced way too high. There have been a few that we’ve really liked (one that we loved) but something “unfixable” was wrong. We loved this one house but the yard was tiny. Can’t make the yard any bigger so we walked away. We liked some other houses until we went to see them in person and they were crap. Or one was literally across the street from the high school. Yeah, I don’t want high schoolers parking their cars in front of my house and leaving trash in my yard and crap lol. There were a couple houses that we really liked but they were foreclosures 9in great condition) and since they were priced so much below their assessed value, they got snatched up before we could even go look at them.

Everyone tells me that the Spring is the prime time for house buying since that’s when everyone sells. I’m really hoping that’s the case and we find something this spring. As hard as it is, try to keep your head up. It may take a while (trust me, I know) but you will find a house and it will be worth it!

Good luck!  I’ve come in second twice now- both offers were over asking- one I offered 11k over asking and thought for sure there was no way I wasn’t going to get it.

I’m seriously considering renting for a little while so the market can cool down.

Wow, it would be interesting to hear where everyone posting lives, just to get a feel for things. I am on the other side of coin right now and just listed a townhome for sale in CO. So far 6 viewings and two interested parties. I’m relieved! I’ve been browsing the market here in central AZ where we hope to buy another home soon and it seems like most homes sit a while and have to come down in price before they sell, so I think it really depends on the area.

MrsZapatos:  I’m in CO as well. Wishing we had bought last year instead of this year because we would have been able to buy in a more desirable neighborhood. Bummer. We are also from AZ, and have friends buying houses out there with no problem because inventory is so high.
