- Wedding: April 2014
I live in Texas where having a wedding “house party” is a thing – kind of a female usher who handles duties like greeting, passing out programs, manning the guest book, etc.
Anyways, I only have one friend (a female) in my house party. I have six bridesmaids (one male, 5 female), so I’m wondering: does that seem awkward, like she’s the odd one out? Should I invite other friends to join the house party? I’d need to invite two (friend dynamics) and our wedding is about 150 guests…may be wedding party overkill?
We have 6 groomsmen and 2 (male) ushers. Since I have a mixed-gender lineup on my side, I see the house party member and ushers as one group of three – in fact, my friend has been referring to herself excitedly as an “usherette.”
I see her as the official “hostess” of the wedding, standing at the front door of our venue (a large mansion with many rooms) to welcome guests and tell them where to go. My initial thought was she’d stand out as more important by being the “chosen one” rather than just one of several…but now I’m second-guessing.
