What about a strainer full of items to make a pasta meal? ( Noodles, Sauce, French Bread, Wine, Tongs) Or if she has kids a movie night basket. You could get a popcorn bowl add in popcorn, dvds, box candies,

Get a fruit basket filled with all kinds of fruit – bananas, pineapple, apples, oranges.  I like a glass trifle bowl – they are pretty and can double as a fruit basket and a trifle bowl!

If she likes wine, you can “gift wrap” a wine bottle in a tea-towel with it gathered up and tied at the neck of the bottle with ribbon. And maybe a couple wine glasses?

Or, get a small basket and fill it with handy items for the home, such as: gorilla glue, batteries, a small extension cord, night-light, matches, flashlight, etc…

What about something personalized? A front door sign or something along those lines that say

” mr and mrs. Smith established 2011″

The Smith Family

etc

What about stocking up her spices? You can go to a dollar store and get spice jars, and then fill them from a bulk food store (I try to replace all my spices at least once a year and it costs less than $3 to refill them ALL and I have a lot of spices!!!).

Cook dinner/bring over some frozen meals?  Honestly, when I first move I’m frazzled/busy unpacking and settling in, so help there is always nice.  More for your sister than her husband, but you could create up a relaxation kit with some bath things or lotions (e.g. bath fizz bombs were 60 cents each at Michaels the other day).

I guess my answer would depend on what they have now. I always try to go for kitchen items. I would do maybe a decent priced bottle of wine with a BBB gift card or maybe Home Depot if they are planning on doing some things to the house. That way, they can get what they need for the house
