Friends of mine are moving into their first home this weekend and I’m going to stop by to drop off a gift.
What would you like to get as a housewarming gift? They’re starting off with nothing since they’ve been living at home (I think they have some small appliances and dishes and things from their wedding gifts though).
I’m getting them some gifts cards but I wanted to make up a basket or something to put the cards into. I was thinking of throwing in some wine or beer into the gift basket with a few other things but not sure what.

Might sound weird, but what about some cleaners? That was something my mom always did for bridal showers. A laundry basket full of cleaners and rags and such. Or a trash can with simple gardening stuff if this is their first yard?

A serving dish. I know it sounds dumb but when I got my first place guests would come over and I didnt have any serving sets.
You can usually find nice ones for like 10 bucks at homesense/winners.

I think your idea is great, a gift card to like Target is awesome, because they can go purchase what they need. =]

Well, we LOVED gift cards to Home Depot or Lowes when we moved in our house. We used it to help buy our grill, patio set, lawn mower, etc. There is so much random stuff to buy when you move.
If you want to do a basket, a really nice gift I have receieved was a “breakfast basket”. It had a waffle maker, plus all the essentials-fancy syrups, waffle mix, etc. It was great and I still use.

If you’re even the least bit crafty you could pull off a towel cake. I’ve been itching to make one but I don’t know anyone who’s moving. You could tuck the gift cards in and add some utensils that would come in handy. I would LOVE to receive one of these!
I’ll post a pic but I’m on my iPad so it doesn’t always work. Here’s a link but if you search pinterest for housewarming towel cake, there’s a bunch of results…
