I don’t live in Sacramento, but I am having a Justice of the Peace perform the ceremony at our wedding venue for $100. Find out the going rate for JOPs in your area – look them up on your municipality’s website. Also, ask friends for referrals.

I am doing a laptop wedding, meaning I pick my own music, arrange it into playlists, and play it through a rented speaker system. Depending on how large your venue is, this could work for you too, and lots of people have done it successfully. Be warned through – creating your playlists will take a lot of time, so start early. There are lots of posts about this on the boards if you search for “ipod wedding”. Arizonabride also gives out a free playlist that she has already put together if you search for her on the boards.

You can also ask a family or close friend to become ordained and have them perform your ceremony.

As for ceremony music, try Craigslist and also consider reaching out to a local highschool – I’m sure you could pay a HS band kid $50 – $100 to play for your wedding ceremony.

I found mine on Craigslist!

We met with him and he’s JUST what we were looking for, so we booked him.  He was cheaper than a lot of the other officiants in our area too.
