My husband and I are finally going on our honeymoon to vegas and california at the end of January. I only get a manicure every couple weeks since I have a naturally long nail bed and many have stated I don’t need acrylic nails. My manicurist at the salon suggested to try gel nails for our vacation so that my nails don’t chip. Can anyone give any experience on how they were for you? Do they damage your real nails? This will only be for the vacation so to speak.

@ButterflyKisses13: I love them.
For me they last 5-7 days. I am super hard on my nails. A regular manicure barely makes its 24 hours with me.

they should last abou 2 weeks if you go to a good place, you will just have out growth. They won’t damage your real nails

Love gel nails! They last forever without chipping. Mine usually look new until they’ve grown out and have to get them redone. I’ve had my toes done too and they lasted for months, but I have slow growing toe nails. They’re kind of a pain to get the gel off, but more than worth it for longevity.

I love them, most nail polishes fall/slide right off my nails. Gels do not, they last could couple of weeks give or take and don’t chip off. Though they are a pain in the ass to get off.

@ButterflyKisses13: I don’t get regular manicures anymore because they are always chipped by the time I leave the salon. I’ve gotten gel twice. It lasted at least a couple weeks both times. The only thing I dislike about it is, if you don’t go back to the salon to get it taken off, it can take a while to do it on your own. It’s not impossible, but it was a process.

I had a gel manicure for my wedding. It lasted about 2 weeks and the polish didn’t chip off at all. I removed them at home (the tinfoil and cotton ball method) and it was really easy and experienced little to no damage to my nails. I would definitely get another one and it’s definitely worth trying. When I get a manicure with regular polish it pretty much chips within a few days, so I was really excited to have it last a whole 2 weeks.

I had gel tip nails for my wedding and honeymoon. They definitely last a long time and did not chip. I only thing I did not like about them was that I needed to go back to the nail salon to get the gel tips taken off (I could not do this myself as they were kind of filed off) and yes they did ruin my nails (they were cracked, brittle and dried out underneath). In the end they were worth it for the wedding and vacation (I went diving which required putting equipment together and well regular nail enamel would not be able to put with this kind of treatment).

Yeah my manicures never last a very long time- maybe tops 3 days without chipping. But I somehow manage to still smudge one going to my car. It’s such a pain!
Thank you ladies for all your reviews! After reading everyone’s experiences, for the vacation, I am definitely going to do gel nails! If I want to take them off afterwards, I’ll definitely go back to my professional salon to remove them.

I’ve had gel nails a few times and I love the way they look (and they do last really well), but my nails are always a bit messed up after. It’s worth doing for special occasions, but I wouldn’t be able to do it for a long period of time.

ive gotten gel nails many times. Most of the time it last 3 -4 weeks. Except the last time I got it. I went to a new place bc I didn’t have time todevice to my regular place. Ny first finger chipped in 3 days and my second nail chipped a day later. So you need to make sure you get it from a good Place. Also if you get French tips it last longer bc you can see your nails growing out.
To take off, soak cotton balls and put around fingernail, wrap each finger with aluminum foil and let sit for 5-10 mins and use a brown cuticle stick or a metal cuticle stick to scrape off. 🙂 enjoy

It’s like impossible to get the polish off though. That’s why I stopped getting gel.

I loved my gel manicures so much I got myself a home kit so I can do them on the cheap 🙂 the ones I do at home only last about 5-8 days, but the ones I had professionally done lasted two weeks!

@ButterflyKisses13: my SO notices that they don’t last as long when you wash dishes constantly because the water weakens the bond or something lol- but she has a huge collection of Sephora and Sally Hansen gel polishes
