I live in Ontario Canada and I keep hearing about bees who are having weddings for 50 people or more and paying under $5000 how do they do it?!
I am having a total of 8 people at my wedding and that includes the wedding party and I cannot for the life of me get the amount that we spend under $5000.00 and I am searching out bargains! The stars represent concrete prices that are set in stone already and the rest are estimates.
Venue – $510.00*
Ceremony Decor – $200.00
Bride’s Dress, Accessories – $1100.00
Bridesmaids (they are my children) – $300.00 for dresses, $150 for accessories
Food – $500.00 (we are going to a restaurant)
License – $250.00
Officant – $250.00*
Tuxes (Groom and his father) – $300.00
Bouquet – $100.00
Hair and Make up – $400.00
Photographer – $1000.00 (and that’s only if I can get them to come down in price and includes engagement photos)
Because the wedding is so small we aren’t sending out invitations. Dinner at a restaurant means no decor concerns unless we work out a set menu and then we will DIY menu cards. I don’t have any costs for the reception venue, decor there etc. and the way that our wedding will be set out, my Maid/Matron of Honor won’t need to be carrying anything because there really isn’t an aisle to walk down. In fact, I may just do away with the bouquet all together and use the real touch hydrangeas somewhere in my ceremony decor which is going to be completely candle lit.
Am I missing something here? How are other Canadian brides doing it?

Find a cheaper dress, DIY hair or make up, Have Fiance and Future Father-In-Law wear suits they already own.

I agree with spending less on dress and accessories. Also, why is your hair and makeup $400? THat seems absurdly expensive to me! Is there any way for you to do cheaper dresses for your children? If you do a DIY bouquet it could be less than $100. Maybe skip the engagement photos and try to pay less for wedding photography. You can always get professional photos taken later.

A few things:
Your dress doesn’t have to be that much. There are plenty of lovely dresses for cheaper. David’s Bridal just opened two stores in the GTA.
Most people doing a 5k wedding don’t have to pay for their attendants hair/makeup/dresses. How many do you have? 150$ for accessories?? 400$ for hair? 😐
200$ for ceremony decor? Really? On what?
Is renting a suit that much?
Where in ON are you located? I know in Ottawa our license is only 153$. 250$ seems a bit high.

I agree with the above. You really haven’t scaled your wardrobe to your budget. If you only want to spend $5000 total, you really can’t spend $2,250 on just clothes/accessories/hair/makeup. That is half your budget almost!
