1. My FH and I are paying for the wedding, but I’m asking my extended family to contribute to videography as many of them live overseas and won’t be able to attend (and they are the main reason we want professional videography, rather than someone we know) and my FH’s parents will likely put in a couple grand.
2. Our budget is about $30,000-$35,000 including the honeymoon and everything else (we would like to allocate $10,000 to a 3-4 week honeymoon in NZ). We are quite frugal in our day to day lives and need a day (and honeymoon) to let go and splurge a bit.
3. Cash, no credit, no loans.
4. I am practically addicted to saving money ever since I did a personal finance course at university a year ago! I have an app (called snowballing money) where I put in all my expenses and aim to save a certain amount per day and I find it really motivating. Since we’ve moved in together, my FH and I are using the app together and put all our spending in it so we are well aware of where all our money is going. It is only because of this that we are able to have such a large budget considering we are 19 and 20 atm and both full time students (both working part time, and I’m in Australia so minimum wage is higher than in north america and uni fees aren’t paid upfront here, to any of you wondering). We have over $20k saved so far and over a year to go.
5. We are prioritising the things most important to us – our biggest expenses are photography and the venue (which is all inclusive for the ceremony, reception, food, drinks, and accommodation) but we cut the venue down a bit by getting married on a tuesday – we can do this because all our friends are uni students working casual jobs in the summer so they can get the day off, and our families don’t have a problem with taking a day off either. We are only having about 80 guests. We are getting very cheap flowers, cutting down on favours, getting my sister’s friend who is new to the beauty industry to do hair & makeup, no wedding cars (everything is in the same place) no DJ or band (MOH is a great performer and very music savy so we can put together a killer playlist) no chair covers or any fancy decorations for the reception (just flower centerpieces from our budget florist). We also have a year still until our wedding which gives us extra time to save, and we’ve been thinking ahead about this wedding for a couple years now, so we had time then to save as well.
