How are you splitting (or not splitting) the holidays between your families this year? I’m sure this thread has been done before, but ’tis the season…
@AnonymousCupcake: First year as an engaged couple! We’re spending part of Thanksgiving with my Grandparents and family, then driving an hour to our hometown to be with his family.
Christmas day we will be driving to my parents’ house for part of the day and then driving 10 minutes to his parents’ house.
Christmas Eve we may have at our condo, but we aren’t sure. And New Years will be with his brothers and people at his parents’ house.
Waiting bee here- spending Thanksgiving at my parents house and Christmas at his parents house.
New years we will probably celebrate at home lol watch out for the lame party animals
Like we always have 🙂
In odd years, we’re with his family for Thanksgiving and my family for Christmas. In even years, it’s the other way around. Both families do “Thanksmas” where we have a gift exchange at Thanksgiving to make up for missing Christmas.
We’re not. I’m lucky if my mom even calls me on Christmas and my husband’s mom always gets bitter around the holidays (mostly because of his brother). It’s easier just to celebrate it with our friends.
@AnonymousCupcake: Thanksgiving is with my family. In laws still go to his grandparents for Thanksgiving, and it is just too far to drive for Thanksgiving.
Christmas we split, and it works out well. My family has always celebrated Christmas Eve (big dinner, gifts, games, etc) so we will be going there. Christmas Day was always his family’s day, so we go there for Christmas Day. We will do the travelling to his grandparents so long as the weather is decent and the roads are clear (they live out in the country on gravel roads).
Xmas eve and Xmas day with my family, then on the 26th we are flying to see his family for the rest of the week.
Thanksgiving is OURS….it’s the one holiday that we really get alone, and I love it!
We don’t get any time off over the holidays as we are always so busy with work. I will be working 3 weeks straight like last Christmas! My parents come to visit every few months and I visited them for Thanksgiving this year. His parents are on the other side of the country so neither of us can afford to make the trip often.
We are spending both Thanksgiving and Christmas with my family – as his fmaily basically just called him again and told him how much they hate me. Oh married life 🙂
Christmas Day with his family. Boxing Day with mine. This is our first Christmas, spending it together!!
Thanksgiving with my family, Christmas Eve (which is a big deal in my family) with my family, Christmas Day with his family. My Fiance isn’t super-close to his family so it works out.
@AnonymousCupcake: This year we are spending Thanksgiving with his family, then going to visit my familiy for the rest of the weekend. We are undecided on Xmas, but likely will be staying home and celebrating with his family. His family is local, whereas mine is not.
In the past, we usually spend one holiday together and split up for the other. I’d have no issue splitting up for Xmas this year, but since I’m pregnant we’d like to spend our last xmas alone together. Plus, given that Xmas is in the middle of the week it will be hard for us to go to my parents since I have no time off left and Darling Husband is starting a new job. I also just generally don’t feel like traveling much as it is this year.
My mom wasn’t happy about it, but what are ya going to do?!
We always go to his family’s for Christmas, and luckily my parents have decided to start making the trip with us every year! Hs family doesnt celebrate Thanksgiving, so my parents get us to themselves that day.
@AnonymousCupcake: i have always traveled somewhere with my mom and brother for thanksigiving. so now Darling Husband has joined us for the last 2 years. this will be his first year with us as an official member. he didn’t have any set tradition or need to be with his family.
the first night of hanukkah falls on thanksgiving this year so we will celebrate then also.
we are lucky that we have 8 nights. when we get back to town, we will celebrate one night with his dad’s side of the family and one night with his mom’s side of the family.
