I don’t think it’s that bad. I’d be scared of it slipping off and falling down the drain is all. And it might be annoying to have it tangled in my hair when I’m washing it.

If it’s white gold, you might need to get it re-plated a little more often since you’re wearing it more and exposing it to water. It’s also wise to have your ring checked twice a year or so to make sure that nothing is loose (prongs, stones etc.).

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with showering or washing dishes with your ring on. I generally don’t take my ring off for dishes, and I only take it off before a shower because I don’t like the way it feels going through my hair for shampoo/conditioner. I actually like the idea of it getting the extra cleaning during dish time 🙂 My only concern is wearing off the rhodium plating sooner (I don’t know if this worry is unfounded), but I can always just get it redipped. I also put a special bowl in my bathroom where I always put it when I’m in the shower, that helps put my mind at ease about losing it/it getting pushed into the sink. That might help alleviate your fears.

I don’t see a problem with it. I never take my rings off, not to shower or do dishes or anything.

I wear my ring in the shower every time except when I wash my hair. No problems so far (had it 9 and a half months). It is a solitaire though so I’m not sure about non-solitaires

I was told by the Jeweler that the soap can get in the crevices and cause the diamonds to look cloudy but if you clean it regularly it should be ok.

I was married before for 16 years and NEVER took my rings off. I never had any issues with them.

I used to always wear my rings in the shower and I have never encountered any problems, I did put a drain guard in my shower though just in case.

One thing I do recommend is making sure your finger is completely dry under your ring after you shower (or get it wet at all.) If water is trapped under there it can cause a rash. Especially if you are prone to excema. I have excema and I can’t wear my engagement ring right now because I am having an outbreak on my ring finger, I can wear my wedding band though because it is very thin.

@totheislnds:  just to clarify for others, a diamond’s structure is not porous like CZ or moissanite. If you have a diamond you should never worry about it becoming cloudy due to soap. Your jeweller is probably just talking about the surfaces of the diamond and little spaces in the ring setting getting covered with soap scum, which like you said, is easily remedied with a cleaning. A cleaning should return the diamond to its original brilliance, however often you do it.

Nothing’s wrong with it at all. The only irritating thing might be if your hair gets snagged on it, or if your ring is way too big and could fall off, but it certainly won’t hurt the ring! Plenty of people never take their rings off, even to swim.

I doubt it’s that bad, but I take mine off for showering, cleaning, etc. Mine is set pretty high, though, and I don’t want it to get tangled in my hair or get chemicals or anything on it. My old hair dresser never took hers off for washing/cutting/etc. my hair (and used gloves when using dye).

I don’t think there is anything wrong with it as long as it is secure on your finger. I have a low setting so I used to shower with my ring on but then I noticed it was getting dull looking and not sparkling as much even though I was cleaning the surface every few days with a mild dish soap and a toothbrush. When I took it in for a cleaning, the jeweler pointed out to me that I was forgetting to clean underneath the setting–the part that touches your finger. I don’t know why I never thought of that but I guess I was getting lotion, shampoo, etc buildup underneath where the diamond bottom is exposed.

Anyway, now I take it off to shower just because I want to maintain my sparkle from cleaning to cleaning. If you do wear it in the shower don’t forget to clean the underneath to aviod buildup!

I shower and do dishes with my ring on all the time. Occasionally if I’m going somewhere and have just cleaned my ring I will take it off because I want it to keep its shine.

Unless I’m working with harsh chemicals I don’t worry about taking my ring off. Water and soap in the shower, or dish water is not going to hurt it.

I doubt it’s bad, it just might get filled with shampoo/body wash but that’s nothing that some dishwasher liquid and warm water can’t get out 🙂

I only take my ring off when cooking and doing the dishes because I bang it around too much. Sometimes though, I do take it off before I get in the shower because it starts twirling around on my finger and I feel like it will fall off.
