Mine’s half a carat and seems about normal here in the UK – most of my friends have similar size rings. I think I’ve only ever seen one engagement ring that was more than a carat (and that was on a particularly rich friend!). I’d also never seen diamond bands on engagement rings or a halo ring – most people have solitares or a simple 3 stone ring.

I’m now considering whether to get a plain or bling-y wedding band to go with my engagement solitare…

Mine is a round solitaire in white gold somewhere around 1.5 or 2 carats- but – it was his grandmother’s and has a visible mark in it, so it would be less expensive because it’s not ‘of quality’.

I love it though 🙂   The setting needs to be beefed up a little as the band is very thin in the back from wear.  Once I decide on a wedding band I’ll have it fixed up to be stronger against that.

For my 1st marriage, we were young and just out of college.  I had a just smaller than 1/4 carat round solitaire in yellow gold.  Bought at Macy’s and on sale.  Immediately after he gave it to me, he gave me the receipt to show how little he spent.

    Not exactly romantic 😉

My solitaire is .8ct, I wouldn’t want any bigger cos it looks pretty big on my little fingers, and it seems very much on the large side of the rest of my friends’/people around here so I get lots of comments of WOW its HUGE etc, if it were any bigger I think I’d feel embarrassed :-/ silly I know! But as long as it sparkles I’d love any size really!
