@Gemstone:  I think making it easier to access would help – for me to get to the Toronto board it’s like 5 clicks.

@anemonie:  +1!!!!!!! I was somewhat able to get by using the cleveland are, but Akron/Canton would be much better.

i also really like the idea of being able to see the local board posts relevant to where you live come up on the wedding related recent posts. i think it would really help liven up the local boards.

@iheartnerds:  Agreed.  I posted this in the idea boards a while back and got no reponses.

There is eastern ma (and the islands), central ma and w mass.  It is really hard to plan something local because of far as the bee (and frankly anyone in ma that isn’t from central ma,) central ma doesn’t exist.  Where do we post?

If this board could be added it would really help central ma bees plan.  It would really be super helpful for me because I am planning this from a far and while I am originally from Worcester I have never planned a wedding there, it has been a little difficult and having this board would help.

ETA: Found the idea link: http://ideas.weddingbee.com/topic/add-a-central-ma-board

I think the easiest way for Weddingbee to update board specific locations per region would be to use the same ones provided on Craigslist. It takes the guess work out for the Moderators.

IE: Washington State:

  • Bellingham

  • Kennewick-Pasco-Richland

  • Moses Lake

  • Olympic Peninsula

  • Pullman / Moscow

  • Seattle-Tacoma

  • Skagit / island / SJI

  • Spokane / Coeur d’alene

  • Wenatchee

  • Yakima

ETA: Allowing bees to add their location by state under their profiles could also help with getting more people on the boards. Eliminating one of the 2 leader boards currently off to the right, under the advertising, could make room for a “local posts” list of the 10 most current local postings for that users area. This would draw attention to the local boards and get people there without having to click through sub-categories.

@CatyLady:  Agreed – comparitively, there are too many small counties, and way too small a UK presence on here, to warrant dividing the UK up any more than say England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

@Gemstone:  I agree with the general comments previous posters have made.

– Making the boards easier to find would be good, I only recently found out there WAS a UK local board, and it is pretty dead, as to get it I have to click on ‘Local’, then ‘International’ and then ‘UK’, which is a bit of a fiddle only to get there any find no-one’s updated there for weeks.

– I also agree with giving people the option to select a local board when they join up would be good – it advertises the board, and could then put it as a selection at the top bar. NaNo WriMo does something similar to this on its forums. You don’t have to subscribe to an area, but it does make things easier to find out about local stuff!

– Allowing updates from local boards to be shown in the main update stream as well would be useful. I think a lot of people on the UK boards find they don’t get much of a response over there so just post on the general boards instead, which compounds the problem of lack of activity on the local board.

I hope that helps!

Milwaukee, Madison, Central, Northeast, and Northwest Wisconsin. We may ot sound like a large state, but we have lots of different areas that need to be represented.

One issue for me personally is being in one state and planning a wedding to be in another state.  I don’t really know how to participate.

This isn’t really what you’re asking for though 🙂

I agree that it needs to be Region>State>City. It’s confusing the way it is. St Louis is Midwest>Other>St Louis. That makes little sense. I think organizing the boards better would streamline the section and make it more user-friendly.

I think New York needs a “Western NY” section. The Knot has Western NY as a separate section from “Upstate”. Western NY being anything Rochester and west. Upstate usually refers to the area north of NYC but east of Rochester. There is a lot of distance between south-western NY and north-eastern or (Upstate) NY. It’s over a 7 hour drive.

I didn’t read through all the suggestions, so just a warning that someone else may have suggested this. The problem with the local boards is that they tend to be pretty outdated as they don’t stay high on the main newsfeed when people post on them as they will disappear if someone from your area does not see or respond right away. If you had an option to subscribe to the local board thread and notified people when something was posted in their area, I think that would be very helpful.

For NC, I would recommend spearating the Reseach Triangle. Currently it covers two areas there’s the Triad (Greensboro/Winston Salem/High Point) and the Research Triangle (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill).

Maybe something to include the NC/SC beaches? Wilmington/Charleston/Myrtle Beach/Outer Banks. Currently they could be either SC or Reseach Triangle but since they are very popular for honeymoons and desination weddings it would be helpful.

Tennessee could also be split into Nashville/Chatt/Memphis

Hi bees! Thanks for all your input! We’re compiling and making decisions on how to improve the local boards based on your suggestions, and will follow up in the individual local boards with round two. So keep your eyes peeled! Your input is invaluable to help us make the boards as helpful as possible for everyone. 🙂

I am so for both NW Indiana, our wedding location, and Bowling Green KY, which will be my new home after the wedding (could also lump with Nashville as that’s a closer city than any of the bigger KY cities)
