Ok here goes my story….

Fiance and I had been coming up on our Five year dating anniversary and my birthday, so we decided we could combine the two and celebrate by going away for the weekend. We had been talking for a while about getting married and knew that we would eventually.

I just didn’t know when the proposal would be. We went to a jeweler and designed a ring together, however I had no idea when the ring would be done or any of the time line details. He knows how much I love surprises so he wanted to keep our anniversary weekend a surprise so I did not know where we were going.

We ended up going to the mountains in PA and staying at a bed and breakfast that over looked the entire valley. After we got settled at the B & B I wanted to go back outside to the veranda and take pictures of the beautiful view. He agreed and brought along my birthday gift— which I just assumed was a cookbook from the looks of it. Up until this point I still did not think he would be proposing this weekend. I had thought he might initially, but my mother (who was in on it as he asked her permission) was very persuasive at making me believe otherwise.

Anyways, we went out on to the veranda to take pictures of the sun setting and open my birthday present. It was a scrapbook of our relationship. He had saved our first date movie ticket stub, and had pages of us from college, graduations, concerts, up until present day. The last page said “The next chapter”… and when I looked up he was on his knee with the ring.

I don’t remember much of what he said and we laugh about it now because he said I looked like I was going to pass out! Later that night we had dinner reservations at a great restaurant that specialized in crab cakes (my favorite). It was all in all a fantastic weekend!

Congrats!!

We were at a Christmas gathering with friends.  We had all agreed that we would do a “secret santa” so that we didn’t go broke.  We all gave each other our gifts and opened them one by one.  I was last.  After I opened the present from my friend, my fiance said “I actually have another gift for D.”

He grabbed something from under the tree and had me open it.  It was a large round tin.  I had some butterflies, but knew that we had not discussed even being engaged until the springtime, at the least.  When I opened the tin, there was a glass ornament in it.  I still didn’t think anything of it.  I just thought he made me a nice ornament.  Until I lifted it up.  On the ornament he had put spray snow and silver sparkly letters that read “Will You Merry Me.”  It was great….

Congratulations!  πŸ™‚ πŸ™‚

My Fiance had some help in proposing.  He got our friend who is the morning show DJ on the local radio station to call me with some ridiculous request to tape promos for an upcoming listener vacation thing we did last year.  I do quite a bit of work with the station, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary.  I asked him if it was okay that i was coming straight from my cyclefit class, and he said ‘No problem’.  My Fiance sneaked in during the taping and surprised me.  He was down on one knee before I knew it and the tape was rolling.  I am actually cringing to hear it some day.  I must have said: “Oooooh….it’s so SPARKLY!” about 6 times.  Tongue out

Aww congratulations on getting engaged!!

Fiance recreated our very first date πŸ™‚

On our first date, we went and watched the sunset in Bodega Bay, and sat on a bench along the cliffside. When he took me to propose, it was soooo foggy you couldn’t even see the water! So he took me to a spot that was semi-clear, and proposed on the cliff πŸ™‚

It was perfect!

Congrats!  We went on a weekend getaway to a cabin by a lake and then hiked up to some waterfalls where he popped the question.

My husband coded a custom iPhone app that took me on a puzzle scavenger hunt all over Boston! Each location was a “first” – first date, first kiss, etc, and had a puzzle and video of him talking about each moment’s significance in his life. It ended with our first “I love you” spot – a picnic in the arboretum with champagne and the ring! So amazing!

Great stories, Bees!

Fiance and I went to Belize last month to celebrate me finishing grad school. The first full day we were there, we hiked an hour through the jungle to explore an ancient Mayan cave. After four hours in the cave, he fell to a knee right before we exited. Of course, I said “yes!” The ring was a bit too big, so on the swim out of the cave I had to hold my hand out of the water. πŸ™‚

He really wanted to catch me off guard…and he did; it was a total surprise!

Here’s what I typed up on our wedding website:

James and Desiree were both sick on Christmas Eve.  However, their spirits were not dampened.  They spent Christmas Eve at Desiree’s grandparent’s house and planned to spend Christmas day with his parents.  After an hour or so drive back to Ocean County, James and Desiree arrived to an empty house.  Desiree was walking around the house getting things sorted when James asked her if she wanted an early Christmas present.  Desiree, being usual self, exclaimed no.  She did not want an early Christmas present. She was always against opening anything before Christmas morning.  So, she went to the bathroom as he argued with her.  He told her that he was at least giving her one now whether she liked it or not.  As soon as Desiree walked out of the bathroom, she walked back towards the front living room to see James standing by the Christmas tree with his arms behind his back.  She was still arguing that she did not want a Christmas present already, but he then handed her a box with a ribbon on it.  Desiree untied the ribbon while shaking her head.  She then found a ring box inside after opening.  Everything seemed to be in slow-motion at that point.  Desiree instantly thought “Is he proposing?! No, he can’t be. This box has to be tricking me to thinking that I am.” She finally opened the box and stared at the ring.  She exclaimed “nu uh” as he got down on one knee and asked if she would marry him.  She kept exclaiming “nu uh” and James finally told her yes this was real as she hugged him.  Desiree was crying, but no tears wanted to come out!  She was in complete shock for the entire night.  The engagement caught her off-guard.  She was not expecting much for Christmas this year because things were a bit tight financially.  James told her that the ring belonged to his great grandmother and was bought in the 1930s.  His parents agreed that it fit Desiree perfectly because she is thought to be an “old soul”.

My Fiance proposed to me at Hershey Park in Hershey, PA. It was a few days before Christmas, which was a great time since we were home visiting my family and we would be heading back to spend Christmas Day with his family.

Around Christmastime Hershey Park is decorated with lots of twinkle lights and holiday decorations – called Candylane. We went the first year we were together, and it’s been a tradition ever since.

I had been hoping he would propose for awhile before that, but I had no idea when it would becoming. He had the ring with him the whole time and had tied part of my hair ribbon to it to secure it inside his jacket. He got so nervous he finally led me over to a bench and sat me down. You’re never prepared fully for that moment to happen. πŸ™‚ I don’t remember everything he said because it was such a blur, but I do remember he said, “I always dreamt of finding the one that would complete my life. With you everything feels right.”

Oh, and small but funny detail. A group of teenagers had witnessed the whole thing while they were waiting in line for the pirate ship and clapped for us when they realized what had happened!
