Not just for the ladies doing their own make up and hair but for everyone –
Are any other ladies wondering how the obsession with hair and make up got so out of hand?
In some ways I long for the days of just putting my slap on and doing my hair. Every time I do my make up and hair now I look at it so differently. I have become obsessed with make up reviews, hair styles! ARGGGHHH. I never used to be like this.
Anyone feel the same way?

I do sometimes. I have always hated the fact my hair was thin and fine. I can never do the styles others can and it makes me feel really nervous about my hair on the big day.
I just wanna look perdy. :/

I frequently go without makeup. Now that I’ve been prepping for our wedding, I’ve noticed myself putting in a little more effort in the mornings, but Mr.ND and I live apart and I’ve got no one to impress at school (other than interview/guest/presentation days, but if I’m dressing up then I’ll do my hair/makeup) so I just shower and go, usually. I just try to remind myself that if I’m going to do anything, it should be for me, not because I feel like I have to. That, and I suck every minute of sleep out of the morning that I can 🙂

@indibee: LOL at “suck every minute of sleep out of the morning”.
My routine in the morning has become ridiculous now that I’m using the 3 step skin care regime by Clinique (not even sure it’s making a difference but I never was patient). I have never cared that much before and it’s ridiculous.
I’m doing my own hair and make-up and am looking into clip in extensions etc. I never knew a person could get so OBSESSED!

I realized that recently too! I used to be strictly wash and go and now I put a lot more thought and time into prepping. I felt pretty pathetic going into Sephora for the millionth time with a coupon and realizing I have NOTHING to buy because I’ve already purchased an entire arsenal within the past 4 months.

My makeup obsession started when I found the look that I wanted and then bought all of the makeup and brushes to achieve it. But then I kept on buying and now have 3 Mac eye shaddow palettes, and another eyeshaddow palette from Coastal Scents. I’ve probably spent over 300.00. Now that I have all of this eye shaddow, etc I am constantly playing around and trying different looks. Sometimes, I wish I had just went and paid for a makeup trial.
As for my hair- I plan on having it professionally done, but am obsessing over pictures for inspiration.

@skyeatnight: Do you mean for the wedding or just in general? I think for the wedding it stems from just wanting to look your absolute best, but as for in general, I always am looking for ways to scrimp on my lengthy makeup routine haha.

@tntrav44: For the wedding. I can;t honestly say i have ever looked at a bride and thought her make up or hair was terrible. The overall effect is stunning. I know brides who haven’t done anything different with their make upor hair and look beautiful on the day.
I never used to be like this and am looking forward to going back to the old me of not caring about makeup, lighting, hair, curls, products, flowers etc….a simpler life 🙂

It makes me laugh that when our parents got married 25+ years ago, nobody had professional hair and makeup done. My parents’ wedding pictures show both of them with their poofy 80’s hair, styled at home, and so does my future in-laws’ pictures. Yet my mom is insisting that I need to have my hair and makeup done at a salon on my wedding day!

I’m definitely way more obsessed w/ my hair, makeup, skin, body… FI was more than a little shocked when I told him how much it’s gonna cost for me to get highlights, mani/pedi, various things getting waxed, airbrush makeup, and updo for the wedding.
Fiance always tells me I look hot when I’m makeup-free and walking around barefoot in sweatpants and an old tank top. Makes me wonder if it’s worth all the fuss for the big day!
