I had cupcakes made to ask them. I didnt want to just come out and ask since I thought that was a tad boring so I figured everyone likes cupcakes! I contacted a local cafe/bakery and had them make 3 cupcakes. 2 of them said “Will you be my bridesmaid?” and 1 said “Will you be my Maid of Honor?”.

My friends and I meet once a month for lunch so I suggested we go to the cafe. I paid for their lunch and gave them the cupcakes. They loved them and they were delicious even though the bakery screwed up the flavor. I ordered white cake with raspberry filling and raspberry frosting but ended up getting white cake and white frosting. All’s good though, they were still a hit. The bakery even made me a bride cupcake (which for the record, I did NOT order).

With my best friend, I didn’t even ask…  “Just so long as it doesn’t interfere with the kids’ birthdays, I’m coming.  Just don’t put me in pink, red, or orange.”

With another friend, I told her when my guy said he planned on marrying me, but was waiting for the right time to ask.  She got all excited, and I casually went “So… wanna be a bridesmaid?” “Oh HELL yes!  I’ve never been one.  Since your Maid/Matron of Honor can’t come, I can help you dress shop and stuff!”

My guy wants our siblings to be attendants.  His best man is another person who will take the role for granted.  I mentioned it to my brother.  But naturally, I am NOT mentioning it to his sisters until there is a ring on my hand.

I sent them all flowers. =] We all live in different cities so it was a huge surprise to be receiving random flowers! Some of them got them at their dorms at school.

@zippylef: Did the same thing.. just called them and said “hey.. busy on June 16?” At that point I honestly didn’t even realize or know of all the cute things you could/should do to ask.. on well. Maybe I’ll ‘officially’ ask in the future! :))

Haha that is basically my style –though I plan on sending out little cards with a small gift/token when I decide whether I am picking a colour or something.

Funny you should ask! I just mailed out cards today. A couple of them know that it’s coming, but for a couple it should be a pretty good surprise!

I’m not very craftsy, but I did put lots of stickers on the envelopes, and wrote them gushy notes about how much I adore each of them.

I took the paper chain bridesmaid idea from oncewed.com

I’m not super artsy, so I picked 1 hairstyle and stuck with it.. so I only personalized it via hair color.  I either gave it to them in person, if I was going to see them, with a card that asked “Will you be my bridesmaid?” and for one out of town Bridesmaid or Best Man, I mailed it to her.  They all LOVED it, & thought it was super cute.  It can be time consuming, but I think the end result was worth it!

I called and asked them.  Simple enough.
