we’re having a small wedding, so it’s a small wedding party. i had to pick my nearest and dearest. i always knew i wanted my sister as my moh, and my fi had his brother as his bm. i’m also really close to my sil, and if i had her in than we could have my brother in, which would mean all of our siblings were in the wedding, and all would be happy.

Well I chose my sister as my Maid/Matron of Honor because while we aren’t besties, she does know me the best and I am glad I chose her.  She was a wonderful help and kept me level-headed!

As for the rest, I chose my two BFF’s from high school, we really have been through everything together and I couldn’t imagine neither one of them standing with me when I got married.  Especially since we had a DJ fiasco the day of, they were both good at wiping away tears and pouring me more champagne!

I also chose my cousin, because my SIL was too pregnant to come to my wedding and I wanted more family.  This cousin is closest to my age and we have always been pretty good friends.  Also, because I had some other cousins from my mom’s side of the family do readings, so I wanted someone from my dad’s side of the family as well.  I think I made her really happy by choosing her, and that makes me happy!

I chose my husbands SIL because I am really close to her and she lived in the city I was getting married in (I didn’t) so she helped plan lots of things for me.

Last I chose my BFF from college.  I could have def chosen more people from college, but I didn’t want to have a 20+ person wedding party!  So I picked just one to be in the wedding party and had another pass out programs and the rest were just invited.  Luckily, most of my college buddies aren’t the jealous type and didn’t even care who did what or who did nothing at all, they were just happy for us!

Maid of Honor: best friend from college

Matron of Honor: best friend from high school

Bridesmaid: best friend from childhood

So, three friends from all stages of my life.

Bridesmaid: Future Sister-In-Law

Bridesmaid: Sis-in-law

To be 100% honest, I really didn’t want Future Sister-In-Law and sis-in-law, but I kind of felt like I had to….

Maid of Honor – Sister I’m closest to

Bridesmaid – Twin Sister (we’re not too close)

Bridesmaid – best friend from college

Bridesmaid – best friend since college (we’re closer now than we were in college)

It was pretty easy to choose. I’m having two other close friends from college doing readings in the service. My FI’s sister is not in the wedding, we’re not close at all, and she barely says two words to me.

It was pretty easy. The boy wanted to have three groomsmen, so I chose three bridesmaids: my sister and my two closest friends.

Neither of us is having a Maid/Matron of Honor or best man. Each member of the wedding party is created equal.

We were both lucky enough to not be pressured at all.

Maid of honor: BFF since 6th grade

bm1: friends since 3rd grade

bm2: friends since 4th grade

bm3: friends since 6th grade

bm4: cousin

I’ve known all of my bm’s for more than half of my life, there’s no one else I could imagine standing up there with me!  I did have a hard time choosing a family member, I have like… 10 girl cousins around my age lol  But I’m pretty close with the one I chose.

I’m having 8 bridesmaids which everyone thinks is ridiculous, but these are the girls who have been with me through thick and thin, supported my relationship with my fiance and are truly my confidants and as Anne of Green Gables would say, “my bossom friends”.

My matron of honor is my younger sister.

Bridesmaid #2 is my fiance’s sister. We are the same age and became good friends. Also, in my culture and my fiance’s culture, you normally have the siblings in the wedding party.

Bridesmaid #3 is my childhood friend who I trust more than anyone and has the same values as me.

Bridesmaids #4, 5, 6, 7 are my college friends and sorority sisters. These ladies have my back and have supported my dreams and been there when I’ve had heartbreak, upsets and difficult times.

Bridesmaid #8 is my best friend in my current city. She is super fun, smart and caring. She would be my Maid/Matron of Honor if I didn’t have a sister.

I picked my BFF as my Maid/Matron of Honor.  She also just happens to be one half of the married duo that set Fiance and I up.

BM’s will likely be my other really good friend from work and my cousin . . though the cousin I’m less sure about.  She’s super busy.  i’m over a year out, so I haven’t asked either of the BM’s yet.  I would hate to put either of them in a weird situation where they have to step down or something else odd.

I’m an only child and his sister has already said that I don’t need to feel obligated to force her into a bridesmaid dress.  She’s super cool but lives several states away so we’re not really close.

I didn’t want to have a huge wedding party. We both decided on 4 each. Someone gave me good advice. When planning your wedding, keep in mind the people that are a part of your current life and your future life together. They weren’t encouraging us to forget our past, but I picked my bridesmaids based on people I think will be a part of our married lives.

I chose the ladies who I knew would be in my life forever. And when I say forever, I don’t mean for 10 or 20 years. I picked 2 of my oldest female cousins (age 22 and 20), my great friend from childhood who is married and has a family of her own, and my great friend and co-worker, Amy, who just came back into my life after both of us travelling and doing different shows for the past 9 years.

I also picked them because they are reliable, display great taste in fashion and etiquette, and aren’t afraid to look me in the eye and tell me the truth when I need it!

i don’t have any sisters, so i had to pick from my friends. it was difficult, but i didn’t want to have so many BMs that the bridal party got out of control! i ended up with five bridesmaids, which i think was a good size. especially because they are all awesome.

Maid/Matron of Honor: friends since 5th grade, best friends since high school. she’s my oldest friend.

Bridesmaid or Best Man1: best friend from college, and we’re still close

Bridesmaid or Best Man2: dear friend from high school, who i also lived with in new york

Bridesmaid or Best Man3: college roommate. i wish we were closer, but she’ll always be a dear friend

Bridesmaid or Best Man4: Future Sister-In-Law. our time in new york overlapped for about a year, which was nice.

my husband chose his grad school roomate as his best man. they were living together when we started dating, and i’m also close with him. his groomsmen were: my brother, best friend from home, best friend from college, and best friend in new york. he made his mind up so much earlier than me, it wasn’t fair!

the only pressure either of us had was for the other to include our siblings. my husband and my brother are close, as they’re in law school together. i’m not as close with my sister in law, but i like her a lot and wanted her to be involved.

my only worry was that i was having two of my best friends from high school as bridesmaids, and not the third. i didn’t want to overhwelm the other bridesmaids with my high school friends, and i also wasn’t as close with this girl when i first got engaged. since i’ve moved back to texas, though, we’ve hung out a ton. i told her i felt bad about it, but she said not to worry – she’s already a bridesmaid twice this year!
