I didn’t do very well with that. I said I wanted to spend “X” amount of dollars, then plugged it into the knot calculator. And ended up spending more.

I thought an $8,000 budget sounded good (since it was less than $10,000). I took that figure and divided the percentages up as my many wedding books suggested. I used that for a guide. Then I realized the $8,000 budget was not realistic unless I cut lots of places. So I really haven’t stuck to the budget. I’m just mindful about every little thing now so I don’t go too much more over.

My fiance and I talked about it, and after doing a bit of research from wedding shows etc., we came up with a budget of 20000. We are paying for 75% of it, so after sticking our number into the “Knot” calculator, we are following our budget solely based on that. My fiance is a bit of a numbers nerd so he calculated how much each of us has to contribute each month to our “wedding fund” to make sure we have enough. So far it has worked! Of course we will probably go a bit over, so we have to plan for that too!

We estimated a reasonable amount that we could set aside each month and multiplied that by the number of months before our wedding. I say reasonable because we knew good and well that some months might be less and the months towards the end of the year would definitely be more (he is in sales). So far six months in we have met that monthly goal, here’s hoping!
