Why can’t a destination wedding be a traditional wedding? You seem to view these as seperate things and I don’t think they have to be.

We’re getting married in Scotland because FI’s parents live there and arent’ well enough to travel to the USA. But our wedding will be fairly traditional (just not in a church).

Ok.  I was in a similar situation.  I wanted to elope.  He didn’t.  He did want a wedding with family and all that.  I reluctantly agreed and put a cap on number of guests, 40.  We started looking at small venues in local areas and because we wanted a small number for a wedding, and not the traditional 90+ usual, we were actually getting additional “fees” that were ridiculous.  So we opted for a Destination Wedding and save a bit and have fun.  Choosing the actual spot was a whole other story.
