  • Wedding: October 2015

I picked my favourite month October, and there were 3 weeks available to choose from. I wanted it to still be fairly warm out, but also wanted to have some fall colors, so beginning of October was the best option 🙂

  • Wedding: November 2015 - The Victorian

dleigh0808:  I wanted to get married in September. Fiance works in baseball so August-October is pretty much out for him (especially because he wants to invite some of his players, so that is post-season time), so November was the earliest we could do it. Since the first Friday in November was taken at the venue we decided on, we took the very next Friday available. So we’re getting married on Friday the 13th 🙂 So the world sort of decided for us, but we’re very happy with our quirky date.

I picked the date of when we first met but if I hadn’t picked something significant to us I don’t know how I would have chosen.

Our anniversary was on a Saturday in 2015, so it was settled.

I wanted to get married before I finished my training program, so that ruled out the latter half of the year. Darling Husband is doing some grad school work in addition to actual work, so we wanted the party to be after the semester. Plus, it’s pretty cold where we live, so a warmer time of year was best. The celebration is in May.

We did have a private ceremony in February because it was near our dating anniversary. It’s also fun to find fun numbers like pi day this year (3/14/15).

  • Wedding: June 2016

Ours is our five-year anniversary! It fell on a Saturday next year and sounded good to both of us.

When we were looking for a non-Saturday originally (in an attempt to save money on a larger wedding), we picked Memorial Day weekend because it wouldn’t be too hot and it would be easier to have a Sunday wedding on a three-day weekend.

dleigh0808:  Fiance and I both liked the idea of a fall wedding.  Unfortunately, the venue we fell in love with only had dates available for late summer, so we had to compromise a bit.  I’m going to be doing rotations for med school and residency interviews in the year that we are getting married, so I had limited dates to work with from the start.  So with all of that, we ended up with a date in late August! 🙂

We eliminated certain seasons & decided which months we didn’t want to get married in, then from there we looked at venues with like 2-3 dates in mind. And that is how our wedding date was born haha.

I’m a teacher, so summer seemed easier to swing for me. My Fiance and I toured our top venue choice and they said “Well, all of June for next year is already booked. How do you feel about July?” From there, our feelings were avoid July 4th weekend (the venue is along a narrow and clogged route to Santa Cruz), and avoid the weekend of the FI’s annual hockey tournament in late July. Of the two Saturday left, one was already taken. Not very romantic or personal, but it did the trick.

We knew we didn’t want to get married in the summer (too humid for our taste) and the Autumn seemed too far away so Spring it was!

We circled 4 or 5 possible dates in the calendar – we have crazy work schedules! – and were able to get our favoured date at the venue we wanted. I would have liked to get married on my grandparents anniversary in June but it wasn’t possible.

dleigh0808:  we wanted to get married on a Sunday in August. The venue only had 2 available left (or wait till the following year). Out of the 2 Sunday’s we picked the one that we “liked” the most.

We knew we wanted Feb and preferrably later in the month, not early. So we just asked what days were free and luckily it was either the first weekend or the 2nd last, so we went with the last. Easy done.

  • Wedding: February 2016

dleigh0808:  we looked at seasons and determined that we wanted the weather to be on the cooler side so that eliminated a lot of months (we live in Florida). Then i knew I wanted at least a year engagement so that left us with september 2015-March 2016. I immediately eliminated any saturdays in 2015 because our venue was booked all of these saturdays and the holidays are pretty busy for most people anyway.

The last thing I did was check any big sporting or event weekends that could conflict with our guests schedule/hotels. We ended up with the last weekend of February- due to the Super Bowl still going on in early feb (and I wanted to avoid valentines day). I know it seems silly, but I didn’t want to have to compete with any football games that the guys may want to watch haha!
