I figured it out when I lost my first tooth.  I heard this buzzing sound during the night and thought it was the tooth fairy coming to axe-murder me, so I ran crying downstairs to be rescued and my mom explained that the tooth fairy wasn’t real (and definitely not trying to murder me).  It was a pretty simple connection to make after that.

I can’t remember how I figured out.

But I do remember when I was questioning if Santa was real. I asked Santa for a bell from his sleigh, and my parents managed to track down a shiny brass sleigh bell (before the internet!) and put it in my stocking! I still have it!

My older cousin told me. I remember we were sitting in the back of a pick up truck (this was down south, y’all!) and she was like “You know Santa isn’t real, right??” all sassy and know-it-all like. It wasn’t even Christmas! The middle of the summer and she just had to kill my childhood for me!

@mszebra: Haha, I know my kids are gonna be like that, I definitely was. When I was little, I was (obviously) obsessed with the Little Mermaid and I took a page out of her book of rebellion. At age two I was shouting at my mother “I am NOT a child!!”

A friend told me! I was SOOO devestated but decided she was wrong and continued to believe for another year or so….but I began to notice that “Santa’s” handwriting was erriely similar to my mom’s.

I had a first grader tell me she didn’t believe in Santa…so sad…at 6!

I think I was like 9 or 10.

@mszebra: Honestly, I think her parents told her Santa didn’t exist. When I told her I still believed she looked at me like I was crazy.

I think I was about 9 and just figured it out for myself.  Things just weren’t adding up.
