I work in Real Estate & I found my job on Craigslist. My SO found his job by Cold Calling (I wasn’t brave enough for this).

I found the job posting directly on the website of where I wanted to work. I stalked the website about once a week for two years. Finally, a posting appeared…I applied, kicked ass at my interview and here I am now!

I started off as a temp receptionist. I was out of college without any real career prospects. Then they had an opening for a more “advanced” position and I applied. I’ve been here for nearly 9 years now. GAH I’m old.

I sent my resume in every school where I had the qualification to teach within 5 hours from my home. Finally, I had the choice because a lot of schools called back for an inteview. Perfect timing, I guess!

For this job I stuck to the basics. I was job hunting there for I was on every site you mentioned but I also went all around and passed out my resume and filled out some applications. Some businesses do not post on job finding web sites. I didn’t fill out an app for my current job, just gave them my resume. They weren’t hiring at the time but they called a few weeks later, said they liked my resume and wanted me to come in and fill out an app.

I know this really doesn’t help for a teaching job. But any other job I would recommend turning in your resume and filling out applications. Most businesses keep them for 6 months. If they are in desperate need of an employee they usually just go through their currant stack and set up interviews instead of posting it on a job site.

I was in the Army so I enlisted. I worked at a call center; got that from a craigslist ad. I worked at Victoria Secret; walked in and filled out an application. I worked as a maid; walked in and filled out an application. I graduated top of my class; got recruited. Contacts have never played a part in my career.

i applied for a job through an ad, didn’t get it (they ended up promoting from within), but then they called me a couple months later and offered me a temp job to fill in for someone’s maternity leave. while there, someone else got fired. i’m currently doing both the leave and fired persons’ jobs. they made me a FT, permanent offer to stay on now that that spot opened up with the firing.
