Congrats! My personal advice would be to definitely be 100% before asking anyone. I waited until after I booked my venue and like two months after that and I had changed my mind multiple times on certain friends that I used to be very close to but have grown apart. I bought some really cute will you be my bridesmaids cards from etsy that were personalized with their names. Then I found a picture with each of my friends and wrote a personal note on the back. I gave it to each of them in person. I thought about doing some bigger but I would rather save that money for their gifts.

To be honest, I didn’t do anything to ask my bridesmaids! My two best friends already knew they would be bridesmaids, my sister was an obvious choice and, a few months later, I just said to my SIL “Hey, you know how I was a bridesmaid in your wedding? Time for some payback.” So…yeah, nothing special at all. They’re all still just as happy to be bridesmaids as if I made a big song and dance about it.

I knew who would be my MOH/BMs before we were ever engaged. All of my girls live pretty far away from me so it was a bit of a challenge, but I wanted to ask them all in person. I made each of them a card and when I was finally in the same city as them, I took them out to lunch/dinner and asked.

MoH: I asked her over Skype. “Wanna be my MoH?”

Bridesmaid 1-3: Facebook. “Wanna be my Bridesmaids?”

Just a text…lame I know but all my Bridesmaid or Best Man are out of town and I rarely see them.  I should have maybe done something really cute like them getting a card in the mail but oh well.

2 of them were in person, 2 of them were by phone (they live very far away). I didn’t do anything cute for it, I just asked them!

I didn’t ask – I was going to ask them anyway, but they asked me & I just went with it!

I didn’t really have to ask my sister or my two best friends because they all knew they were going to be in the wedding.  After my Fiance and I set our date and booked the venue I officially asked my two friends to be bridesmaids by taking them out for dinner and drinks.  My sister just assumed the Maid/Matron of Honor role when I got engaged but I never formally asked her.

For my one Bridesmaid or Best Man. . . it was around Christmas, so I decided to incorporate asking her into her gift. I gave her Bridesmaids on DVD and pasted “will you be one of my. . . ” on top of the title of the movie. She was shocked when she opened it! My other Bridesmaid or Best Man. . . I asked her through a FB message. Her fiance was already asked to be in the wedding party while he and my Fiance were drunk in Disney world. . . and then we threw around the idea of her being in the wedding as well. I just made it official through FB, lol.

I wrote a letter to each bridesmaid (I have 7) with memories and special moments each of us have shared together over the years.  I also thanked them for always supporting me and encouraging me and would be honored to have them stand next to me on my special day.  For the girls that live near me, I tied the letter to a bottle of wine.  For the girls who live out of town, I bough a copy of My Best Friends Wedding and sent it to them with the letter.  Each bridesmaid loved the letter and all of them said yes.

I took my sister and friend out to dinner and then gave them each a bottle of wine with a cute saying asking them to be my BM/MOH and then a personalized hanger that I made.
