He almost led me to believe that he was planning a birthday dinner to make up for past birthdays. But then he told me to wear his favorite dress and told me to stay off his computer so I wouldn’t ruin my birthday surprise. While I was getting ready, he kept coming in and out of my apartment, and my sister had a suspicion this was more than a birthday dinner. I thought a proposal was imminent, but then forgot once I saw my friends at the restaurant. I was like “aww I’ve never had a surprise party with friends!”. The proposal came later that night after our dinner, a limo whisked us away and when I saw the nightclub we met at out the window, I knew that was it! So yea, overall his change in behaviour and being all secretive in the weeks leading up to my birthday gave me some indication LOL.

- Wedding: July 2015 - Carmen\'s Lakeview
We had discussions of timelines and knew we wanted to get married July 2015. We had even gone so far as looking at venues and sketching out a budget for a possible wedding, talked to our families about it, as well as had gone ring browsing and I had a few that I liked pointed out to him. So I knew something would happen and soon. My parents had visited that summer (August 2014) and I knew he had asked for their blessing (while staining our deck! So they couldn’t exactly say no. lol). The ring came in while my parents were there and he showed them…hell I drove him to the post office the day it came in, although he was the one to go get the mail as I wasn’t allowed, so I knew he had it. I figured he’d do it sometime between September-December as we had some “celebrations” coming up: 1 year of living together, Thanksgiving, my birthday, his birthday, Christmas, etc. Nope…he completely surprised me as my parents left the Tuesday, and he did it on the Saturday, which as it turns out, was 1 year and 4 months from our 1st date! He did it before the end of summer and before we went back to work (we both work in schools).

emitchell456: He made reservations at the restaurant where we had our first date. Leading up to the night he mentioned on more than one occassion how much he was looking forward to dinner (he never really says that). So I kind of suspected. Then, before we left for dinner, I was doing the dishes and he was pacing around our apartment and being generally sketchy. He popped the question in our living room before dinner.

First time he proposed I errr didn’t see it coming *at all* and that’s why I said no!!! Horrendous at the time but quite funny in retrospect!
Second time I obviously knew he wanted to marry me so when it came up in conversation whilst on holiday 2 years later (!!!) I pretty much spelled it out I was ready and then we had a very very low key ‘will you marry me?’ ‘Yes!!’

I wasn’t one of those women who got a surprise proposal, which is totally fine. My fiance and I had dated for nearly 6 years by the time we got engaged, so we had talked about marriage for a very long time and knew we both wanted the same thing. It was mostly a matter of logistics, timing, etc when it came to the actual proposal and making it official. I guess you can say I was “betrothed” for a couple of months until my fiance could travel to see me and give me the ring, which I helped pick out. We became betrothed when our families “agreed” to the marriage…aka his parents officially agreed (cultural differences were a massive factor). Whether his parents agreed or not, we still would have gotten married — it just would have been on a different timeline. Regardless, what my fiance said when he proposed was very special to me and that’s what I’ll always remember 🙂

We went ring shopping together so I knew it was going to happen within the next year. As that is what we agreed. There were two special occassions coming up, and I made sure I had my nails all pretty before hand, and he was very happy I had done this, therefore I knew It was going to happen within the week.
