- Wedding: June 2014 - San Francisco, CA
My guy’s mother (FMIL) always wore her abuela’s wedding ring on a chain around her neck. I don’t think she ever took it off. Guy and I had been talking about the future, then one day, Future Mother-In-Law had a different necklace on. I asked her about it, and she said something vague about the chain breaking before changing the subject.
That was when I knew what was in store …
(This isn’t the actual ring, but it looks kinda like it, with a plain band + one round ish diamond in a square frame-like setting: http://trumpetandhorn.com/cathedral-ii.html )

We looked at his grandmothers ring together and I’ve been promised a proposal by August 1. so I won’t be too surprised any time between now and then!

He asked me to dinner 3 weeks in advance, so I suspected something more than dinner was in store, and I was right! I tried to prepare myself for it not being that day though.

Darling Husband mom insisted on taking me shopping one day before our cruise and he kept calling and checking up to see how long he had and then his mom would try to talk in code like I didn’t know it was him (she hhas a different ring tone for him) and then to top it off I found the receipt in his wallet.

I had no idea! We’d kinda glazed over the subject, I had dropped major hints (like pictures of rings) but he was totally sneaky and managed to completely surprise me.

I had no idea it was coming. We had discussed it and I knew it would happen in the next year or so…but I was completely oblivious when it actually happened. Christmas break had started and my hometown puts on a beautiful nature walk/Christmas light show, and I LOVE Christmas lights. Fiance talked me into going there in -10 degree weather, and I was totally distracted by the snow and pretty lights. He even insisted that we go over onto this dock over the water, and I still didn’t realize. It only clicked when he said that I was the light of his life, took off his gloves and then got on one knee….lol.

He made it too obvious that it was coming. He showed me many pictures of rings in different styles and said “A friend at work wants to propose to his girlfriend and wanted a second opinion…” Yeah right! He then took my promise ring a week before Valentines day. Also found a few hundred dollars suddenly missing from the bank that he withdrew. Valentines day comes around, we’re watching tv and he asks if I want my promise ring back. I tell him of course, he gives me the box, snuggles up to me, and asks “Will you marry me?” when I notice it isn’t my promise ring. 😛

No idea! Never even talked about it.

rachel85: My Fiance started acting like a lunatic! She can’t keep a secret from me, so she was acting all nervous and crazy once she picked up my finished ring. It was pretty much burning a hole in her pocket. She managed to get it together after a few days, but I still suspected that she had the ring! A week later she proposed!

I HAD NO IDEA……he proposed at our kids 1&2nd birthday party in front of our friends and family. He waited til both babies had opened all their presents and then asked if there were anymore. When I said no he said “I think there is and its for you babe.” I figured it was earrings or something nice cause he likes to surprise me, but when he walked up with the box and said I think our daughter should be able to spell you last name too, I started crying! He never got a chance to get on one knee or even actually finish asking because I was SO SURPRISED I grabbed him and cried into his shirt! Needless to say it was amazing.

We went on Black Friday after Thanksgiving 2012 to look at a ring I had found 2 days before. He loved it and I knew he had bought it, but I had no clue when he would actually propose. That Saturday, they called and said it was ready, so we drove to pick it up. As we were headed home, he asked if I wanted to go get dinner…and we ended up at the restaurant we had gone to on our first date. I knew it was coming. I actually had to go to the bathroom to calm myself down a bit before we left. He took me to the park we had also gone to on that date, where he proposed. 🙂

It was a surprise for me!

I was very suprised. We were on holiday in Jamaica (far trip for us, we live in Western Europe). We had been there for more than a week, when he asked me. Not on a beach overlooking the sea while I wore something dashing, but when we we’re hiking and sweaty at the YS Falls. I wore outdoor clothing and teva-sandals and it was the most romantic thing ever. He was just like “I’ve always said I’d do something special, when we were in a really beautiful place. Well this is a really beautiful place. Will you marry me?”. Of course I said yes.

rachel85: Mine was a complete surprise. didn’t see it coming at all. We went ring shopping and talked about it on plenty of occasions but it hadn’t been recent. I though he was going to buy me a purse on my lunch break. I guess I should have caught on since he was playing my all time favorite wedding songs but I didn’t lol After we picked the purse we ran out of time and it was time to go back to work. He asked me to look into my purse and see if there was a dust bag…… there was and I closed tyhe purse. He asked me to look into the purse again and there was a box. I started balling and turned around and he was on one knee with the box in hand opened asking would I marry him. Turns out the workers at Dillards were in on it the whole entire time. Lol
