One of my best friends S started dating a guy D, she met when we were out for drinks one night and a few weeks later I met his friend MJ. I honestly don’t remember meeting him the first time and the second time we met, I was unbelieveably rude to him, we were supposed to be having a girls night, I’d had a crappy day and I was not impressed that S invited D and MJ.
We ended up having an amazing night, I saw him the next day and night, then every weekend for the next month. We started dating a 2 months after we first met…and 2 years 7 months later, here we are!

Yay, I love these stories too! My SO and I met in grade 7. I was walking home with a friend one day after school, and he was riding his bike. My friend knew him but I didn’t. He walked with my friend while I ride ahead in his bike. After that, we walked home from school together for a few weeks before he told my friend that he liked me. Typical 7th grade relationship, my friends bugged him to “ask me out” on the playground at lunch. I said yes, and we’ve been together since! Of course it was generally a friendship in the beginning since we were so young, but things got more serious in high school.

I met him in math class in high school. My teacher told me I got the highest grade in the class on a test we just took and my Darling Husband told me he was going to beat me on the next one. I told him I didn’t care… but we became great friends and I slipped to my friend when she asked me who he was and I said “just some guy in my math class, but I’m probably going to marry him… I don’t know why I just said that!” 8 years later it came true!

We met on eharmony. I had taken the free quiz, saw some matches, and fell in love with one guy’s profile. I paid dues specifically to talk to him. We communicated online for two weeks, and then I told him “let’s meet for coffee Sunday.” I forgot that day was Valentine’s Day, being single and all, and worried he’d think I was nuts for suggesting such a cliched meeting. We met up anyway, he gave me a stem of carnations, and we hit it off immediately.
I’m marrying him Saturday 🙂

I was living Brooklyn after college, and I met him as he was moving into my 6-apt building. He introduced himself and we hit it off immediately. We made plans to hang out that week, but it quickly turned into a Date. A few months later, I moved downstairs into his apartment, and we’ve been inseparable ever since! We’ll have been together 5 years when we get married this year =)

@cct876: I love these stories too, but sometimes I feel awkward when I tell people how my fiance and I met because there are always a ton of follow up questions. Haha.
My fiance and I met during late spring/early summer 2007. We were both invited to go on an educational trip (college students and recent graduates from all over the country were invited based on grades, extracurriculars, etc.). There were 4 location options for the trip and each location had 2 time options (about a month or so apart). We both happened to choose the same location and the same time: China in May/June. (I also went to Tibet, but he unfortunately didn’t want to pay the extra money for this additional part.)
The first night we were there, everyone was incredibly jetlagged and we all crashed in our hotel rooms shortly after our first meeting session. My fiance and I started hanging out the second night there. We went out with some other people from our group to drink and hang out, but he and I really hit it off. The next day we were completely inseparable, spending all of our free time together and getting to know one another.
I originally thought it was just going to be a summer fling, to be honest. We knew each other for about a week when we hooked up for the first time. It was weird, though, because I felt this strong connection with him … I really liked talking to him, and I knew it was more than just a physical thing. The only problem was that we lived 1000+ miles away from each other.
I finally just asked him what he wanted to do. I expected that he’d be like, “It’s been fun, but I don’t want to deal with a long distance relationship.” But no … He told me he wanted to try to make it work!
We made the long distance thing work for a little over 2 years, and then I moved to be with him. We’ve now been together for 5 years and 8 months, living together for almost 2 years, engaged for almost 3 months, and getting married this November!
(Sorry, I know the story is long … I guess I’m just used to explaining it in great detail to people in real life as well. Haha.)

I also met my SO in junior high, but we have different recollections of our first actual meeting.
He says we met the summer right before we started 7th grade. His family had just moved to our town and his mom and him brought their dog to my parents’ veternary practice (my parents are both vets). I was there because I used to ‘work’ there and he said he thought I was really cute.
I remember it a bit differently. We lived in a pretty small town so of course everyone knew everyone. He was the new hot boy in town and naturally all the girls were interested in him. He came up to me on the second day of school and asked if I was the girl at the vet. I consider that our first ‘meeting’ since we actually spoke to each other.
We were together all through junior high and high school. We were engaged in college but broke up my senior year. I moved away and was engaged to someone else for a while. We reconnected around a month ago and have been inseperable ever since.

Fiance and I met on Craigslist in December 2009. He was looking for more friends to hang out with locally and put an ad in the platonic section of the personals. I was looking for new friends too, specifically those who were okay with being friends with a young mom who didn’t have a lot of time to socialize. He had written in his posting that friends with kids were totally cool with him, and the rest of his post was great – he sounded fun and funny.
So I e-mailed him and we started messaging back and forth. Our first face-to-face meeting was in January 2011 – we went to the movies and then to karaoke (still one of our favorite activities and the inspiration for my username :D).
We were strictly friends for several months, until May of 2010. I was at his apartment celebrating the end of my college classes and my impending graduation. A little too much wine made him brave, I guess, and he kissed me out of the blue. He told me later that he had only decided he was interested in me as more than friends about five minutes before the kiss, haha. The man doesn’t wait around! Anyway it was an amazing first kiss and I realized right away that we had something really special.
We became official at the end of May and moved in together in August 2010. He proposed in February 2012 and we’re getting married this October! 😀

Oh, man! When I was in high school, I started working at the mall part-time (Pacsun… seemed awesome at the time). Eventually met Fiance a year or so in and we worked together briefly.
…ok, that’s not being totally truthful… he was my manager! Lol! Not for long though, and it was totally platonic and appropriate at that point! We only worked together for a month or so before he left to open a new store across the hall. We were both in relationships at the time but stayed friends and brought each other Red Bull on breaks (sweet sweet retail courtship). Once we were both miraculously single and had time to lick our wounds (his much worse than mine), we eventually started dating. Here we are 4 years later (6ish since meeting)!
