    • Wedding: April 2011

I wanted to get married on a Sunday and on a new moon.  April 3 was the first day that fit the bill.

All of the above: special significance, looked cool, and was available at our venue.

    • Wedding: June 2011

We had a lot of factors going into our decision.

    1. I wanted an outdoor wedding, so time of year was a factor.

    2. Our grad school schedules. Fiance is graduating in May, I will be working on my thesis over the summer, which is due in July (if I don’t decide to push it back a semester, which might happen)

    3. The lease for our apartment is up on August 1st, and we will be moving to wherever jobs are.

    4. Fiance and I are both in weddings over the summer (May 21st and June 4th) and there are a lot of graduations at the end of May/beginning of June that we have to deal with.

So, basically, we couldn’t have anything before June because of weather/graduations/etc. and nothing close to or after August 1st b/c we’ll be in process of moving, possibly out of state.

We had to account for the honeymoon of the couple getting married on June 4th, because the guy getting married is FI’s best man. So, that meant the weekend after was out. The weekend after that is Father’s Day, so we didn’t want to mess with it.

So, we decided the weekend of the 24/25/26 was our best bet, as it would give us time to honeymoon before we had to be back to deal with my thesis due date and moving.

Our choice of venue was taken on the 25th, so we opted for a Friday night ceremony, thus the 24th. This also saved us money on venues, so it worked out in our favor 🙂

    • Wedding: December 2010

I wanted a fall wedding (love the colors), but we decided on a date near christmas to accomodate family from all over the country.

We also chose Sunday, because traditionally Italian weddings were Sundays and its good luck. Fridays are bad luck, so says my grandmother. The discount didn’t hurt either. Wink

I picked the date my fiance and I first met. Then our venue gave our date away while we were waiting for them to sign the contract back to us. So moved to a date that was available with the venue.

We picked the summer because I am a teacher so that is when I have time off and he is a news producer and could not do it during a high ratings time period. Ratings are in July but they end the 27th so he would only miss one day if any of the period. The 31st is actually 11 months after he proposed since he did that on 8/31/10 and we are getting married on 7/31/11. So the date has some significance.

We wanted a summer wedding after school had been over for at least a week, but not into July since it can get so ridiculously hot. That left only one Saturday.

@R.Elliott:  we have the same wedding date!   we actually picked ours for 2 reasons:

    1. i am weird about “cool” dates, so i liked that 10/1/11 was like 10 + 1 = 11

    2. we are both big hawkeye fans, and it’s their bye week for football 🙂

    • Wedding: March 2011

I wanted a cool date (like the month and day adding up to the year), but it didn’t work out 🙁 So my date was chosen by availability of the best man. He goes to West Point and if we wanted him to be there we had to choose a weekend he knew he would have leave. So March 19th it is!

I’ve always wanted a winter wedding, and we had to plan around FH graduation and my master’s program, since I will have only been in it a year when we get married. Well, if everything goes to plan…

We just picked a day when all of our families would be around.

If December doesn’t work, we’ll probably end up having a Spring or Summer wedding, which is not what I want, at all, but oh well.

We wanted a spring wedding and our venue gave a discount for having a wedding on a Sunday, but the month didn’t make a difference, so we picked the first Sunday in May.

We both teach, so it had to be in between semester.  We both wanted an outdoor ceremony, and I like the weather in May better than June.  When we found out the venue was cheaper on Fridays, we picked the first Friday after both our semesters are done.  So May 20th was a date the venue had available.

Our first date was 3/13, engaged on 10/13 and will be married on 11/13 after a 13 month long engagement.  We like 13, obviously.
