we toured our first two venues today…we loved both. Now it just comes down to deciding which one.
A) Castle- its always been my dream to get married in a castle…it was amazing and would make for some excellent photo opps, downside is theres a tent for reception, outdoor ceremony, would have to squeeze guests into castle for indoor if rain…would be croweded though, could make for a pretty ceremony, its not as wheelchair accessaible, which would be an issue. Of course its more pricey, and we would have to cut our guest list, and get married on a weekday to make it work. so not as practical.
B) venue number two is pretty we all and all loved it but you cant compair it to a freakin castle. It had some nice garden grounds, downside is we would have to rent both rooms so that our guests and another wedding guests don’t end up sharing bathrooms, walking through our wedding ect. Plus side is that it included a ton of extras such as cake, center pieces, limo, DJ, and of course is on the cheaper side. Downside I hate the carpet they have…my SO says that is is typical though for any wedding venue to have that type or printed carpet, there are also several locations to make an inside ceremony work, and wheelchair accessiable is easier for sure.
I am leaning towards one….what is your all opinions.

@MissParrot: If you have the budget for the castle, go for the castle. I mean, how often do people get married in CASTLES?! And plus, it’s your dream!

I would not cut my guest list and get married on a weekday for any wedding venue.
When we were looking (well actually before that even) I was in love with a place in our city. It had literally everything I could think of that I wanted in a venue (indoor/outdoor, held enough people, awesome view, great area for cocktail hour, etc.) but with the rental and the catering list we had to choose from it would have been really expensive. We could have went with the cheapest caterer (not that great food) and skimped on everything else, but who really wants a not that great party without everyone you want there, just to have the pretty place to have it? It’s just not worth it. I found a different venue with most of my list, and we are having awesome food, can invite a lot more people, a great DJ, and a photobooth.
If you’re not happy with the other choice though, I think you should keep looking. Especially if you’ve only seen two!

@MissParrot: We were in a similar boat – fell in love with a castle, but it was wayyyy out of budget for us. We ended up going with a different, more affordable venue that we loved just as much, and then got our engagement photos taken at the castle so at least we’d have some memories of it! They came out beautifully, too 🙂

If you know you have a guest or multiple guests in wheelchairs then that would be a dealbreaker for me re: the castle….Is it possible to do a photography session at the castle without it being your actual venue?

For me, the venue is somewhat important…the only reason I will spend as much as I will on it is because there are barely more affordable options. More important is who I want to come to my wedding. FI’s family is several states away, and I want them to be there. I am super close to all of them. So weekend wedding it is!
It just depends on what is more important to you. My sister had a mid-week wedding, and she missed having some people there that she really wanted there. Also, because people had work the next day the reception was cut very short.

I would love to be able to do the ceremony at the castle and the recption at the other venue, however the castle only books one wedding per day so I highly doubt they would allow this..and our weddign would be in peak season….I will however have my FI e-mail them to ask if we could pay a fee to have some photos done there its only 15 minutes from the other location, they also have a chruch so maybe if we choose their chruch to get married in they would let us take some photos there? I dunno its highly unlikely but couldn’t hurt to ask?

We went with what was most affordable BUT with that said, we had other cheaper options but our venue was also gorgeous inside so that was the selling point. Plus we wanted a place where we didn’t have to also rent tables and chairs so our venue included that. We also needed a place with a kitchen for caterers and with lots of bathrooms. We really lucked out with our venue.
