When choosing the date we knew we wanted it to be on a Saturday and either in July or August. Next I knew I didn’t want it to be on a full moon (people really do get weird). So, when finding out the moon cycles, I began to learn a little about different moon phases. I read it is best to have celebrations and new beginnings during a waxing moon (time from new moon to full moon). So our date was chosen for the Saturday with the newest moon that was on the calendar. We did not set out to choose a date this way, but that is how it came to be.

We picked ours at first because June 1st was already taken at our dream venue…just so happens that it is FI’s parents’ wedding anniversary! FI’s dad passed away when Fiance was 8 so it definitely holds such a special meaning 🙂

We got engagaed on Christmas Eve. We have been together for 5 years and are both in our 30s. Catholic church requires 1 year engagement. January it is. I picked the 19th b/c it is a 3 day weekend with MLK.
Also I never wanted to be a spring bride. Spring here is cold, windy and usually wet. Yes, January is cold but you are expecting it and not hoping for a perfect spring day. I live in a resort area so summers are out of the question. We own a seasonal family business and wouldn’t have had anyone to work the store. And well to be honest fall 2013 was way too far off.
Lastly I like the idea getting married during the “off season” for weddings.
