  • Wedding: September 2011

1. My husband wanted an outdoor wedding, so that ruled out November – April, leaving May – October.  (We live in the northeast US.)

2. I HATE the summer because I’m very sensitive to heat and humidity, so that ruled out July-Aug, leaving May-June and September-October.

3. We got engaged in January 2011.  May or June 2011 would have been too aggressive for planning, and May or June 2012 would have dragged things out too much.  So, that left us with September or October 2011.

4. Our venue had many of those dates available, but it’s in the mountains and starts to cool down earlier in the year, making October a stretch.  Additionally, my mom is a teacher so it was easier for her if the wedding was before the school year.  Finally, since we were sort of a destination wedding (3-hr drive and at least one night’s stay for most people), a 3-day weekend made sense.  After a final check to make sure the date worked for our most critical family/guests,….

…. voila! Labor Day weekend.

Number patterns and special dates didn’t play into it.  It’ll be a special date regardless.

I like the added bonus of having my anniversary be tied to a 3-day weekend every year!  I think we should always celebrate on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend regardless of the actual date πŸ™‚

  • Wedding: June 2013

We’re June 22, 2013.  I knew I wanted a June wedding and on a Saturday, so that narrowed it down a bit.  Its going to be an outdoor ceremony, so I didn’t want to do anything later in the summer for fear of it being too hot.  I’m a little OCD about numbers – I wanted the date to be an even number, so it was between the 8th and the 22nd.  We ended up choosing the 22nd, just figured any extra weeks to save money would be good. haha  I am freaking out a bit about the 2013 part, but I didn’t want to wait another year to get married, so I’ll suck it up. πŸ™‚

  • Wedding: April 2012

I picked a month, and my venue picked the date sortof.

April this year had April Fools, Easter, tax day, my wedding day, then one more weekend.

So even though tax day is a non-important day, I just didn’t like the 15th.

21 it was. πŸ™‚

Fiance really wanted summer, and we didn’t want to wait a whole year, so when we got engaged in early Feb. we knew we wanted it to be this summer – but we had to wait to find out my brother’s deployment leave dates from Afghanistan, which we didn’t know until mid-March. All that was left for some vendors for that two week span was Sundays,…so Sunday, June 24 it is!

Fi wanted a Summer wedding and I wanted a Fall wedding so we compromised on Labor Day weekend. This also had the advantage of an extra travel day for our Out of Town guests.

After we booked the church and the reception hall, we found out that that was the weekend of the HUGE instate rivalry football game. His family started joking that they wouldn’t come to the wedding unless I had TVs set up. So we pushed the wedding up a week. August 25, 2012 it is!

@BellaDee:  It turned out to still be pretty hot on our wedding day.  I definitely got sweaty and gross, unfortunately.  We took 15 minutes after our ceremony for “private time” before joining cocktail hour, and I actually spent half that time rinsing off!  I stripped out of my wedding dress, and took a cold shower, only from the neck down of course.  Then I bustled my own dress (since it was off, anyway) and my husband zipped me back up!  My bridesmaids were really surprised when they came back to bustle me up.

This happens to me all the time because I get hot so easily.  So, it’s sort of apropos that it happened at my wedding, I guess!

Where are you getting married?  Our wedding was in the Catskills, and I see that your location is nearby.

  • Wedding: November 2011

I always wanted to be a June bride, and we just looked at the calendar from there.  My mom is active in her local firehouse auxilury, and they are hosting a convention this year, so it really had to work around the FD schedule – and the weekend of the 16th would work.  The next weekend, not so much – for either family.

I think I picked it from a year I started seriously planning. I got engaged on my birthday July 3 – so thats easy to remember. Got married August 14… and our half year anniversarys fall on Valentines day. Makes it pretty easy for hubs to remember!

@BellaDee:  I know!  But being in the mountains did help.  It cooled down a lot at night.  The problem was that we took photos for a couple of hours in the hot afternoon sun before the 4pm ceremony.
