I have to hire bartenders and I’m doing beer, wine & signature drinks as well.  I’ll have the bartenders setup on my deck for cocktail hour and split up (one on the deck the other inside for dinner) after.

My venue provides glasses for everything except martini, so we had to rent those throught the bartender.  Our biggest thing was plastic.  We didn’t want plasticware, so we are renting the martini glasses.  I don’t think I”ll have a problem with people having beer out of bottles.  I’d feel more uncomfortable with cans (for some reason they seem more tacky or redneck to me).  We are only purchasing glass bottles of beer.  Not sure if this is just a me thing or if anyone else is more uncomfortable with beer out of a can vs. glass bottle.

Do you not have a bartender serving?  Most places require someone to be there monitoring the alcohol intake of your guests and to provide insurance.  I’d make sure of this before you start just putting open glasses out for guests…

@YSQueen: I think it may look a little strange if they are pouring the soda from a 2 liter bottle out in the open.  If they are pouring behind a bar, it is normal and nobody can really see it.  If you want a “prettier look” to your soda dilemma, why not do mini glass bottles out for people to take.  You can wrap a label around them with your wedding logo.  That would be cute.  Just put them on ice in a bucket or set them out in a cool area.

Option B. would be to have your server come around with ice cold soldas on a tray.  How cute is this?
