Haha nope! We just called everyone!! I didn’t put it on Facebook until the most important people were notified. I also wanted to get the word out to the important people before people started talking to each other. The morning after it happened I was already getting phone calls from random high school friends. It’s like, wow…word travels fast!

I called my family that night.  I wasn’t sure what order to call my friends in, so I waited until the next day.  Unfortunately, by then, my sister had put up a Facebook status saying, “I’m going to be a maid of honor!” and everyone knew before I could tell them ;o)  It all worked out in the end though.

My parents and sister, his parents/siblings, and my Groomsmen on Dad’s side are the ones I told. I thought Mom would notify the rest of the family, but apparently not, because only one of my aunts (out of 6) and my Groomsmen on my Mom’s side have said anything to me about it. I have it on Facebook, but not even my cousins said anything, so I don’t know if people just don’t know or just don’t care, lol! Didn’t think about calling anyone else, figured the aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. would just think I was bragging. It’s been about two weeks since we got engaged.

I texted a photo of my ring to my immediate family first saying “GUESS WHAT!,” made a couple phone calls (grandparents), announced to his family in person (they live down the road), and then posted it on facebook for everyone else to read! Of course one aunt got bent out of shape after “I never told her” …..too bad she got the same text everyone else got!

I was not one of those “call everyone now!” type of people. My closest friends & my mom saw the relationship progressing and none of them were surprised; a few predicted it. Plus, when we got engaged there wasn’t a ring yet, so I didn’t feel like making a big announcement. We just told our family & friends quietly and as we saw fit.

When I got the ring two months later, FH timed it for a pre-planned visit to my family, so I got to show my mom first! Then, it felt “official.” In my family, it’s acceptable to just make one call to my grandmother and wait for her to spread the news to everyone else. The whole family was notified within a few days!

At work, I never said anything and waited to see how long it would take for people to notice I was wearing a ring. It took about two months; I gave a presentation under a bright light and it sparkled. 😉 Everyone knew after that!

My parents were out of the country when Fiance proposed but apparently he had asked for permission before they left.  First person I called was my brother (my only other family member in the country) and he was shocked as H*LL that I was going to beat him down the aisle (he’s a year older).  Called my closest friends but phones were off…it was 2 A.M. afterall.

The next morning, Fiance and I went for breakfast.  It was then when he called his folks to give them the announcement.  What’s funny is that hours before he proposed, he was out to dinner with his family, ring in his pocket, and had not mentioned it.  Imagine his family’s surprise!  Suffice to say we ate cold breakfasts as family and friends wouldn’t stop calling.
