I love these stories! Keep them coming!
Mine is a long one! So, read if you’d like haha.
I’ll start by saying that 2 weeks before the proposal, Fiance drove 3 hours on a Thursday after work to ask my Dad’s permission. It turned out to be 5 hours because of accident traffic on the freeway so 8 hour round trip to ask haha. I love that :). I remember him calling me that night saying he was on his way to the gym but I even questioned him “It doesn’t sound like you’re driving..” but beieved him because, why wouldn’t I? Ha! He ended up staying for dinner and a whiskey with my parents. So sweet.
Proposal: I actually kind of ruined his original plan. He was goingto do it the week before Christmas. I love Seattle at Christmas time so we were going to head there to see the lights, do some shopping, stay in a hotel and he was going to do it then. But then I bought him tickets to see his favorite musician in Seattle in January, so we decided not to go in December. Anyway..
We go to my parents house (outside of Seattle) the night before the concert because I decided to invite my parents along to the show *hehe woops* and we would all take the ferry over the next morning and spend the whole day in the city, having lunch, cocktails, shopping all before dinner and the concert. I was SO excited, I love my parents and I love spending long days like that with them. The morning of, my dad comes home from the gym and says “I got called into work. Mom and I will have to take the next ferry”. I was super bummed. One of our traditions is to drink a Bud Light on the ferry together haha, So i was like booooo. He promised he wouldn’t have to work long, so they would meet us there soon. We got on our ferry and my dad calls us saying he had to stay later and they would have to take an even LATER ferry. I was SO upset! Fiance kept reassuring me we will have plenty of time with them. (For the record, I am VERY close to my parents and I live 3 hours away so I like to spend as much time as possible). When we get to our hotel my mom calls and says they missed their ferry and had to wait for another one. I actually teared up in the lobby thinking my whole plans were ruined. Fiance was sooo sweet, said “Let’s go get coffee and some snacks for our hotel room, no big deal. This is going to be a great night! We will meet them for dinner and the concert will be amazing!” Ya ya ya, I was pretty irritated. I was actually kind of a brat the rest of the afternoon haha. I didn’t mean to be, I was just sad.
Fast forward, he tells me my parents are at Ivar’s by the ferry. He says we are going to pick them up and take them to dinner. I say okay, sounds legit. We head toward Ivar’s but then he parks in a parking garage. He says my dad messaged him to come have a drink with them since they had full beers. So we pay to park, and start walking. It’s freezing cold, I’m grumpy, I’m wearing heels and a short skirt, my hair is being ruined by the salty wind, meanwhile Fiance starts acting super weird. He keeps walking back and forth by the water like he is looking for something. I start complaining “It’s cold! My hair! WTF are you doing!? Ivar’s is that way!” and then he stops. So I stop, and question what he is doing. He starts with: “7 years ago, there was a bus stop right here. 7 years ago I met you at this bus stop for our first official date.” (his plan was always to propose at the bus stop but it had been removed). He starts telling me how much he loves me, and then it hit me. He got down on one knee and suddenly I wasn’t cold or grumpy any more! I don’t remember a damn thing he said but it was the happiest moment of my life. There was also a random photographer there who got pictures but wanted us to pay him for them and we said nah but he did send us one for free.
After the initial shock wore off he explained that my parents had actually caught the ferry right after ours and had been in Seattle all day just waiting. So we drove to dinner where my parents were waiting along with my brother and sister in law, champagne and celebrations. It was this whole elaborate scheme on all of their parts. We then went to the concert and we got to hang out with the musician which was fiance’s dream come true, so it was a magical night indeed.
The next morning he told me he had called my boss to get me out of work on Monday so we could go wedding band browsing.
