He took me shopping for my birthday present (we never do surprises for birthdays, we just go shopping together or tell the other exactly what we would like). I didn’t know what I wanted, so we went to the mall and some jewelry with my birthstone caught my eye. While we were in the jewelry store, he suggested looking at rings. So I showed him a few I liked and some I didn’t like, even though I knew the ones there were way over budget, it gave him an idea of what I like (white and/or rose gold but preferably a little of both, round stone, halo, not a plain band, etc). He picked it out and got exactly what I wanted but at a price he was more comfortable with and let me pick out my wedding band myself.

i knew he didn’t have a lot of money and i was tired of waiting to get married after 5 years of dating so i told him to get me this sterling silver ring for $120. now i regret it because i don’t think i’ll ever get my dream ring b/c now that we’re married there’s always something else to pay for. ๐Ÿ™

We both said right away we love solitaires so he bought the diamond first and then we took it to our jeweler to design the bands.  So I got exactly what I wanted and while it wasn’t a surprise or anything, I am still in awe of my ring everytime I look at it.

RoseMH :  When I got engaged, I wanted there to be some element of surprise as well. But I also wanted to make sure I loved the ring. So my Fiance and I went and looked at rings together, which I’m SO glad I did. Originally I wanted a princess cut but I hated them on my finger. Then I thought maybe I wanted a cushion cut, then an oval. I finally ended up trying on a pear and fell in love!

So we tried on a bunch of pears and narrowed it down to three that I would be really happy with. He got to choose the final one so it would still be a surprise. ๐Ÿ™‚

My Darling Husband didn’t know. Mine was a surprise. He just tried to pick out what he thought I’d like!

Fiance heard a conversation I had with a friend several months before he bought my ring and ended up with the exact ring I had described. Needless to say I feel so lucky he did that.

I’d been sending him pics of things I liked for years, but when the time actually came to get serious about getting married we went shopping together. I didn’t love anything at the store, so I told the jeweler what my dream ring looked like and they made it custom for me. I didn’t see any CADs or models of the ring, so it was still a surprise!

We went shopping together, I picked 3 I loved, he made the final choice. He also picked the center sapphire without me so that was a surprise. It was perfect for us. He still got to have an element of surprise but I got a ring I absolutely love.

Darling Husband proposed without a ring. He’s not good AT ALL at picking jewelry. He wouldn’t have known about the different specs, what is a good deal, what wasn’t, etc. He also said he wanted me to do all the picking to make sure I was 100% happy with it. I’m glad it went that way.

slothbear :  we did the same! we browsed Tiffany’s together about a year before and tried on rings. he knew i wanted a classic 6-prong solitaire, and we both agreed the band of the classic Tiffany setting was too thick for our tastes. he ended up purchasing the perfect ring from Brilliant Earth, and he found out about them through their ads on NPR haha. good marketing choice, BE!

prior to our trip to Tiffany’s though he knew the classic solitaire was my favourite because i often pointed out rings i found beautiful, if we were riding the metro or standing in line at the supermarket.

We aren’t big “surprise” people and we knew when it was going to happen already. He had asked me what kind of ring I wanted and told me he wanted me to like wearing it every day. I picked the setting I wanted, and the diamond we conferred on together. We decided on a special engraving for the inner band together. It was very special and meaningful! When it arrived he said “this is a very nice ring! Good choices honey.” Lol ๐Ÿ˜œ

We went ring shopping. When I decided I found my engagement ring, he bought it right then and there. We were already engaged at the time (I got engaged without a ring). It was a fun few days to discuss and try hundred of rings.

He didn’t know! Like a pp, I live somewhere where it’s often a surprise. He never asked me anything, and I never dropped a hint. He chose my ring based on the metal I wear most frequently (yellow gold), what he thought I’d love, and his budget (no idea what that was). He did an awesome job!
