Our venue does four tastings a year, and they have 8 – 10 menu foods at a time.  We went to one in Nov and there’s another one coming up next month.

Each tasting has different foods (we’re not tasting the same stuff four times)

Ours is this weekend!

We are getting married at a DoubleTree and I’m kind of let down in how the tasting is going to work out.  There are several pages of entree options and we are only allowed to taste three entrees, one starch and one veggie.  This makes no sense to me.  So basically we are not going to be able to compare the regular mashed to the garlic mashed or the glazed carrots to the vegetable medley…kind of off putting. When we told our contact the three options we wanted to taste, she said that we had to pick something else because they took too long to prep…even though we told her a full month in advance!

I wish our venue did something like MichiganBride’s, at least then there are more options to compare!

Good luck at yours!

We’ve eaten at the restaurant where we’re getting married a few times, and trusted them on most things (or included things we’d had before). But there were a few places where they made recommendations (option A or option B) and we weren’t sure, so we just tasted those. It was pretty painless, we booked a time, sat at a table by ourselves, and stuffed our faces with way more food than I though we were going to get. OMG, I wasn’t hungry for like a day afterwards.

OMG im so hunry now after reading that lol sounds great!

Ours doesn’t do a tasting however the reception is catered by the restaurant in the hotel so our co-ordinator made reservations for us at the restaurant and we got to eat for free to try the food ๐Ÿ™‚

We’re going for our tasting on February 21.  They are only giving us one salad, one main chicken dish, and one dessert.  We had NO OPTION for the tasting.  Which really surprised me because when we signed the contract, we were under the impression we can choose between different options (for each sections appetizer, main, dessert, etc)

I will give them the benefit of the doubt (because it’s so hard to get a hold of someone there, and to get some answers! and I have way to much to do right now).  But when we do go for our tasting, we will ask ALL the questions.  And if we need a 2nd tasting (because we didn’t get to taste the beef dish which is supposedly an option on the contract we signed) then they’ll have to schedule an extra tasting for us.

I wish I had done more research before I booked our reception venue.  I think it will turn out ok all in all, but for the price we’re paying, and the service we’re receiving up until now, I am not impressed ๐Ÿ™

Sorry to highjack your thread.  I hope your tasting goes well!  I’m a big fan of buffets.  At least you get to try different things and it gives you an idea of what the food will taste like in general.  Good luck! ๐Ÿ™‚
