Mine wasn’t as cute or unique as I wanted it to be. The hubs didn’t think it was a big deal and thought we should just call them on the phone (guys and their creativity – sigh)…BUT because of who I am, I at least had to be creative with my parents (or at least somewhat creative). Once I found out I was pregnant, I started my personal baby blog which only my hubs knew about. What I did was send my Mom to the blog. She scanned through it and thought it was cute but it didn’t hit her until she read the last blog entry. She literally read the entire post before she realized it was telling her I was pregnant… Her reaction? She screamed! lol

She then took the laptop to my dad and did the same thing and again, he went through the post before realizing what it was saying, lol… My parents are not that slow.

See, not very creative but it worked.

I would like to think that I’ll be creative… but honestly I’ll probably tell my mom the first day I pee on the stick haha. I talk to her every day so it’d be hard to not tell her “oh yea went to the doc, oh yea puked again” lol.

But… if I’m able to hold it in, I’d like to do it in person. I like when people get them things that say “grandma” and “grandpa.” Or a framed sonogram picture.

@Corgi – it was so hard to not tell my Mom because I too talk to her everyday. The funny part is before I knew I was pregnant, my sister and Mom had dreams that I was and told me that I was. A week or so later is when I tested positive. Crazy huh?

@prncssdiva – It was a good moment for me and her. She screamed so loud, I was hoping my dad didn’t hear it. Sure enough, he was in his “man cave” enjoying a cigar and drink and was oblivious to it. So it was great that he was able to have his own reaction.

we’ll probably just tell them at dinner… both of our parents live near us so we go to dinner with them often. i think it would be really cute to buy them a “bubbe” mug or something like that, but i think it’s a jewish thing to be supersticious so there will be no buying things until we know the baby is healthy.

I am not sure how we will do it. My mom is a very negative person when it comes to health stuff so her reaction will probably be to start talking about everything that can go wrong. She has also been talking for years about how when we have kids she is going to move in with us and raise them (shudder). So we are probably going to wait a while, then downplay the news. ๐Ÿ™

We haven’t told them yet! I can’t believe how good I am at holding secrets in but I have talked to my mom almost every other day since I found out, and I haven’t told her yet! I think it was because my Dr. told us to tread lightly when telling people since it was still early in the pregnancy, but were waiting until mothers day to tell my family ๐Ÿ™‚ I bought the little bibs that say I love grandma/grandpa…my mom will be thrilled, I can’t wait to send them out!

I am not pregnant, nor have I had a baby, but my mother in law to be told me that when she announced she was finally pregnant to her mom (they had to try to conceive my sweetie a really long time) she wrapped up a gift a ceramic baby duck. She had already given the two parent ducks to her mother for Christmas, so it didn’t take her mother long to figure it out! When my sweetie and I are expecting, I’d like to continue that tradition and get her three ducks the same way. =-)

My mum is desperate for a grandchild. My brothe is 5 years older than me but with special needs is unlikely to ever has a family of his own. All of my cousins have children and my mum is desperate to join in with her sisters who are grandparents. Whenever i speak to my mum on the phone (i make cakes) and tell her in baking, she always jokes ‘so have you got a bun in the oven’.

I want to be creative in the way i tell her so i will either do something with cake! or i always buy my mum the Willow Tree figurines so i may get her the grandmother one and hope she gets the hint!

My Brother-In-Law and SIL got pregnant right before Christmas. They gave each of my in laws a wrapped box and told them to open them at the same time. Inside were TEEEEEEENY socks that said “#1 Grandma” and “#1 Grandpa”. It took them a second, but then they got it and they were soooo excited! Brother-In-Law had accidentally spilled the beans to hubs and me when we asked what kind of wine to buy.
