How do first dance lessons if you're long distance?

Do you have to do dance lessons? Looking back, I would be seriously choked if I had spent any money on dance lessons. It really doesn’t matter.

That said, there are a few places in our city that offer weekly classes in ballroom and latin. You don’t need a partner or experience. Perhaps if there was something similar in your two cities, you could do those classes separately and then take one-off private lessons or just practice together when you see one another.

I was going to say to practise separately then do a few together. Alternatively, ring a few dance instructors and see if they’ll do longer sessions for you.

I wouldn’t worry about dance lessons.

We were long distance and opted to do one dance lesson where to teacher taught us the basics, how to dip, where to put your hands, etc. So we didn’t do a choreographed dance, but the lesson we had helped us feel more confident and definitely helped our dipping skills!

akshali2000 :  The majority of people don’t take dance lessons, and first dances often range from couples who sway to those who choreograph their own dances and may or may not have had tuition. Basically, most people dance in a style that feels natural to them.

We’re having lessons because we both felt self conscious about dancing in front of our guests, plus I’ve always wanted to try dance lessons of some sort and this was a good excuse to give it a go. They’re completely not necessary though.

It might be normal in your social circle but it isn’t necessary

My fiancé and I are long distance. Last time I was in town we had two private dance lessons in one week. I’ll be back out there in a few months and we’re going to do one more to solidify things.

You don’t really need a full course of dance lessons. We started out with just 2 dance lessons on a livingsocial deal. With those two lessons, we probably could have come up with a decent first dance on our own, though we did end up springing for the full set just for fun.

sparkosity :   craigslistgirl :  Thanks guys! I’m going to ask if they can be flexible and lump a couple of sessions together when he’s here visiting once or twice and then do 1-2 on my own and just teach him whatever is remaining when I visit.

We did private lessons. I would pick something really simple. My husband froze and couldn’t remember a thing.
