I know this seems like a silly questions but I am having to “block” off rooms from a hotel located in North Carolina while I am in Afghanistan. Can I just call them? Do I have to have a certain number of people staying at the hotel? What if we dont use all the rooms they blocked off? Do they reserve the rooms but what if they aren’t used? I guess I am just not sure how the process goes or what it entails. If anyone has done this before I would love to know about it.
How much is the discount usually?
I am not having the ceremony or reception at the hotel but its walking distance from the reception/ceremony site.
Thanks!

Call the hotel during 9-5 on a weekday.. (I tried to block hotels on a saturday… both of the hotels that I went to I needed to talk to the front desk manager or someone like that who was only available on weekdays…). YOu can usually block what you think you will need from them. The guests normally have to book thier hotel 30 days before the date. The hotels I am blocking at are giving those who say they are with the wedding a 10 and 15% discount.

Call the hotel and see what their policies are.
When we blocked the hotel we had to pay a certain amount to “hold” the rooms. And the rooms not booked were released 30 days before the wedding so the hotel could fill them with non-wedding guests. They returned the money to us after the hold was up (except for the rooms that we were booking for ourselves).
Our guests got a 15% discount. Each hotel does it differently though. Just call and ask about hotel blocks for wedding guests.

I hope you have already been able to take care of this but I had time difference and Miles between me and the hotels I needed to block. You can do it all by email, and just print, sign and mail back or scan and email back. We opted not to have any guarentee that we had to pay on unsold rooms and we could negotiate a little (we had them throw in Parking at one of the two hotels we blocked for) Just remember to read the fine print. And then get that information to your guests ASAP. Have you started on a wedding website? It is so very easy and seriously with family and friends scattered all over the world I was able to send out the Save the Dates and email information out also. Its going smoothly now!
