I am not in your area, but I struggled with this also.  I looked at websites, interviewed folks, but in the end I went with my stylist.  The girl that cuts and colors me all the time.  I decided that the fact that she knows my hair, and I am super comfortable with her personality were the best thing for me on a day where I am most likely going to be a ball of nerves.  Having said this, there are folks in my area with more bridal experience, but since I am a regular client she worked with me on trials until we found the PERFECT and I mean PERFECT style.  She referred me to the in house makeup artist at the salon she rents space in, and that worked out well (my makeup is very simple).  Moral of my story, is that I decided that knowing the person was the deciding factor.  And it worked out for me.

Have you tried Yelp?

I actually had a friend that had modeling pics done so I just used her girl and was really really happy I did…

@DrDaniJohnson: Bummer.  Yelp is a great place to start.  You could also call people you know if the area you are looking in and see if they have anyone they would recommend.  And then call those stylists and ask if they have a portfolio you can look at.
