Your fiance needs to know your true feelings about his mother. You need to tell him honestly what your thoughts are about his eating disorder and the link with his mother. Also, if you have children it is natural to want to be close to the maternal grandparents. I think you just need to tell him exactly what is on your mind while showing honest concern over the relationship he has with his mother.

I would only say that this is a dealbreaker if you really mean. Are you willing to end your relationship with him if he is unwilling to move to be near your parents? If so, then I would say it is definitely a dealbreaker. But if you are just threatening him with that to get what you want, I wouldn’t recommend saying that to him.

Get out. Serously.  Not to sound rude. BUT my Mother-In-Law ruined my first marriage. She was controlling, meddled in our business, nosey, always had to know EVERYTHING. He was such a mama’s boy. I had enough.  I couldn’t live like that. our marriage had no privacy.  NONE!

When kids come into the picture, it gets worse. Not kidding.  They are more all up in your grill more than ever.  The Mother-In-Law parents your kids, right in front of you. No matter how often you say something, it will never stop.

@Lola1985:

It is not healthy that your husband does not see the faults his mother has. This means that it will be hard for him to defend YOU when his mother is out of line. He needs to learn that as his wife, you come first.

How about living an equal distance from both of your families? That would be an excellent compromise.

You should be able to talk to your fiance about anything with no nervousness. A healthy marriage is emotionally open.
