That’s because in order to rent a suit,  you have to rent a suit-tux.   It’s a tux that looks like a suit.   We also chose a suit tux.

pswtec: If it looks like a suit, it’s a suit, not sure what a suit-tux is but the two have certain characteristics that set them apart so there is no such thing as a suit-tux… although it may be true you have to go in to the “build a tux” section and then select the tan suit in there. It’s still a suit.

OP, Men’s Wearhouse has one tan suit so if you want to go with them your options are pretty much limited to that one thing, I would just go in to the store.

We got my husband’s suit from Express and he didn’t need any alterations. You could also check out H&M, Nordstrom, TopMan, etc.

pswtec:  There is no such thing as a suit tux. You can rent a suit.. You can rent a tuxedo. The most well known difference is that a tuxedo has satin lapeks and a satin stripe down the pant. There are other differences including when and where they are worn.

ChrissyMary9515:  I am not familiar with the suit rented by Mens Wearhouse but mant Bees have posted about it. I would check the price, then see if in fact, it would be more cost efficient for them to buy a suit.

Quite a few Bees have used http://www.studiosuit.com for custom suits so you will be able to find reviews. You can get a tan cotton suit for $160.

We got my FI’s suit from Express (photographer suit). He doesn’t need any alterations for it at all. His is a light grey color. We ended up buy the pant, vest, and jacket, but will not be using the jacket for the wedding.

That’s the look I was going for and we ended up renting from a local place called David’s Tuxedo, I think it might be a small chain. I think its the Ceremonia Tan from Prestige Tuxedo. Most suit rental places will have many options in black, maybe a couple in grey and then one tan tux and one tan suit. Suit rental choices are usually very limited which blows my mind because the satin trim on a tan or a grey suit just makes me shudder (personal preference of course but to me it looks tacky).

Ours bought suits from Target and JCP in similar colors. They ended up spending about the same they would renting a tux and they actually get to keep it and can re-use it.

julies1949:  actually,  i went through this in person.  At men’s wearhouse,  you can’t rent a suit.  You can rent a tux that looks like a suit.  It’s basically a suit,  but they consider it a tux rental.

ChrissyMary9515:   they have different styles.  We went with a gray Vera Wang.  You are renting a suit,  but they don’t call it that.  If you go in and ask to rent a suit, they will say that they don’t rent suits. They rent tux’ that are suits, but they call them a tux.

We got our Groomsmen suits at Joseph A Bank when they had a sale going on and they came to just over $200 each, which from what I’ve heard about renting is a pretty good deal.

I would check that out, as they have a pretty big selection of colors and styles.

We are renting light tan suits/tuxes/whatever from a local tux shop that carries “Jim’s Formalwear.”  If you go to the Jim’s Formalwear website, you may be able to find a local place to rent from.  Ours look like this, but there were other choices too.

carolinabelle:  Tuxedos are black, or midnight blue, with silk faced lapels, and braid down the trousers.  Suits do not have silk facings anywhere.  There is currently a trend for grey suits with silk facings, but they’re actually neither one, nor the other.

If in doubt, consults http://www.blacktieguide.com
