Absurd? Yes. A lazy gift on her part? Absolutely. I have a shit ton of change – hey, I know! Come over here and haul it out of my house and it’s yours. That being said, I’d still roll up my sleeves and go pick it up.

It is a ridiculous game of power that she is playing. No reasonable person would expect that anyone, much less her daughter, would have time to deal with this 2 weeks before the wedding.

Nevertheless, I would get my butt over there, pick up the money, take it to a store that has one of those automatic change counting machines and be done with it.

Your bank should exchange it for you free of charge

Dude!  I’d be doing a happy dance and collect those coins and head straight to the bank!

(Sometimes those coin counting machines take a percentage of the money – FYI – where your bank may do it for free! – at least, that’s what Darling Husband found, when he cashed in a bunch of coins)

ETA- granted, yes – it is a little ODD …but, money IS money!

LOL, I actually think it’s kind of funny.  When the aggravation passes, it’ll be a nice wedding memory, that your kooky mom paid for the caterer in change.

Very weird of her and like a PP said, it seems like it’s a power game, but I’d put on some jeans and go pick up my coins!

Go to your bank. More than likely they have a machine where they can just pour the change in and presto! MONEY!

Yeah it is strange, but lifting those cans aer great for toning the arms!

Wow, that does sound like a power play. Just let your bank know ahead of time when you’ll be coming in so they can be prepared. And, don’t forget to have a good laugh at the entire situation!

@barracuda:  That’s just plain rude IMO. Go get it anyway and smile the whole time like it’s the greatest thing ever!
