I bought Spanx today to wear while I try on dresses next week, but I’m second guessing the size I got.
I purchased this style: http://www.spanx.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2990122&cp=2992553.4058787&parentPage=family’ defer=’defer
According to the size chart my bust & waist is a M and my hips are a L. I tried on both and was able to get both on, the L came on easier so that’s the size I bought (and becausthey hips are my big concern). How do I tell if they are too big?

If they don’t make your internal organs feel a bit smushed, they could be smaller!

The point is for them to suck you in, right? So the smaller size makes sense? Also because your waist and bust are a Medium, you don’t want it baggy up there.

Mine are almost impossible to get on. That’s how I knew they were the right size. 😀

I should have sized down in my Spanx for maximum slimming power, but I went with the size that my height/weight fell into. They don’t really slim at all, but are just “smoothers” in that they don’t create panty lines. I would recommend sizing down, as long as they aren’t suffocating you and the waistband isn’t rolling down or digging into your skin. The smaller, the better! That way, they hold you in properly.
