Are you looking for wood or paper? I’d use card stock cut and glued to cardstock and strung together with ribbon

I’ve seen wooden letters just like that at Michael’s – really cheap, something like $2 each.  I’m guessing they painted those letters in black and then glue-gunned them onto wooden squares that you can also find at Michael’s!

Good luck!

I would use wood letters or maybe even felt?  If you use paper use a thick cardstock.  You can get wood or ‘paper mache’ letters (not sure what they are really called) at Micheals (or most likely any craft store).  Cover them with a couple layers of black paint then glue them onto wood peices (also can be found at a craft store in the wood crafts section) that you painted white.

Another cheaper option I can think of that would still give you a ‘real’ look is to use foam core. You can buy black and white foam core (at craft stores near the kids craft areas), print out letter and glue them to square pieces of foam core.

@Adeline4:  Just don’t drill/punch the holes much larger than the width of the string you use to link it all together and it won’t move around much. If you have a snug fit they should stay.

@Adeline4:  You already have lots of good suggestions on how to make the letters. To keep the individual letters in place, just tie a knot in the back each time you thread the ribbon, rope, twine etc to the back.

I was going to say foam core as well (for both the letters and the bases). Knot the string to keep the letters from sliding. Even if it’s tight, they’ll eventually loosen up, especially if you use paper. Wood would be too heavy to not slide around. Another idea would be to secure the letters to the string. With paper or foam core, you could use tape on the back. With wood, I don’t know what would work. Maybe glue gun, but it might break after a while. Though if it’s just for pics, you should be fine.

YOu can buy chipboard letters for pretty cheap @ hobby lobby or Micheals. you could even buy sheets of black foam and cut the letters out of it (might be cheaper) I would use a much heavier cardstock. Like a 110lb instead of 80lb.

measuer out the same amount of space between the squares on your string ( I would use a thick satin ribbon) and then just hot glue that bugger down.

Super cute BTW!
