That may do the trick!
I would either google it or search on here for the paper lanterns. They look great! Another option is draping fabric but that is time consuming!
I am always on the school of thought that lighting is everything! If it is in your budget I would turn off those super bright lights and use uplighting on the walls vs. trying to drape fabric. Do you happen to know if those lights dim? If so, you could dim them and then use candles to set the mood.
The same can happen with paper lanterns, have the room a little darker with the glow of the lanterns.
And for the stage, are you having dancing? Cause I’m thinking that stage would be a rocking dance floor! And it would be really cool to have your first dance elevated! 🙂
I actually thought about the draping but have no idea how much fabric i would need. and if its time consuming…. : ( bummer! Im hoping once people are enjoying food and music they won’t even care about the sound pannels on the walls and the stage at the far end lol
I agree with uplighting, and it can actually be done really cheaply! I can’t remember where I saw the tip, but for just a few dollars, you can pick up some bright lights at Target or Home Depot. Then you make a box to cover it (likely with wood) and paint it to make it pretty. Finally, you cover the side of the box the light will be shining through with Saran Wrap of the color you want your lighting to be. Voila! You have uplighting for less than $10 per light.
I think if you combined that with turning off the overhead lights and then maybe stringing a bunch of small white Christmas lights all over the ceiling, it would look really magical.
I’m with the others that say uplighting is a great way to spruce up the place.
I agree with PP about the uplighting, you can get them to show up the walls in different colors. There are some threads in DIY that talk about where to get them and how to work them. good luck
