Budget and Guest list, and any issues that come out of those two not jiving 🙂
If all looks good there, move on  to venue and photographer since those often book up fast if you’re picky.

And you have PLENTY of time just to bask in the glow of new engagement for a bit.

@MrsReal:  I think the best thing to do is figure out first WHEN you want to get married, then WHERE. Once you have those things in place it’s easier to figure out the other details like what kind of food, decor, dresses, etc. We booked our venue first, and it made it easier because we got a lot of recommendations for vendors, etc. through them (i.e. places that are familiar with the venue and that have a good relationship with the venue).

Have fun!

I agree with PP.  Decide on how many people to invite and a budget.  Maybe a theme so you know what direction to go off as far as venue.  Than book the big ones.

Pay them off monthly and you are good to go!  We had an 18 month engagement.  I waited 2 months before starting planning but I agree, its never too early to start!

@MrsReal:  I had NO IDEA what I was doing….Basically start with budget, and maybe theme..then you can find a venue/church/date and then the dreaded guest list 🙂

I agree with others on budget, guest list, and location/time.  Also I made a wedding binder.  I have it on my blog, I can message you the link if you’d like.  I just can’ t post it on here.  🙂

I agree with the posts above too.. I also would recommend checking out the Knot website..  They give you a breakdown of what you should be doing on a month to month basis.. If I didn’t have it I would have been lost on where to begin.

I also had no idea what I was doing!  I started with look at wedding websites and pintrest for ideas, got an idea of what season we wanted and guest count and went from there.  Good luck and congrats!

I found the tools on theknot.com very helpful.

Everything you do will depend on your budget and how many guests. After you determine that you can find a venue, and book vendors from there. Photographers tend to book up first.

For me, everything made a lot more sense when I had my venue booked. It helped me visualize what I wanted and it also gave us an idea of how to budget our money for the other costs.
