I have only been to a handful of weddings so I have no idea what schedule to follow. When should pictures be taken with the parties, when should the ceremony start, when should the reception start, is the first dance immediately when we get in the door?! How does this all work?!

It varies wedding by wedding depending on needs. I can tell you more traditional schedules.
I like Bridal attendants and groom’s attendants to get their pics done with B&G seperately before the wedding. This saves a ton of time and you get pics in differnt locales so doesnt become monotonous. (Scout interesting backdrops on route to ceremony beforehand.) You can do a 1st look and pics if you want next. If not fastforward to ceremony.
Traditional:Bridesmaids down aisle, flowergirl, bride from there varies based on denomination.1st kiss, party comes up aisle. Possible receiving line or sendoff with bubbles/rice. Ride around church for few minutes, most guests gone. Formal pics in sanctuary w/ party.
Reception:announcement of bridal party, B&G announced as mr &mrs. 1st toast, people served or dimissed to buffet, everyone seated again further toasts, couple on dance floor 1st dance, further dances G&Mom, B&dad etc. cake cutting, dancing, bouquet toss, garter toss, send off if hasn’t been done. If you need a more complete list I can dig one out of my files. These are just quick highlights and there a hundreds of possible variations. Hope it helps.
