We always had a few presents from Santa that were not wrapped, this gave my folks alittle extra time to sleep in as we explored the unwrapped gifts.  Darling Husband thinks that everything should be wrapped.  I went with my way last year.  It is amazing that even teenagers wake up at the crack of dawn to get their gifts, and leaving a simple video game unwrapped gave us two whole extra hours to sleep in.  Haha, my way it is, LOL.

Everything has been relatively easy for us, thankfully!  We had similar traditions growing up so that has helped.  My mom, sister and I used to open some (or all!) of our gifts on Christmas eve because we live away from our extended family (we’re in Calgary, they’re in Vancouver) so it was just us 3 for a long time.

The only thing that has really changed for us is that my husband’s birthday is on Christmas Eve so I try to keep his birthday separate from “Christmas stuff.”

My husband and I have a few traditions that we’ve started for ourselves though such as always picking out our fresh tree and setting it up on December 1st, and buying 1 or 2 new ornaments a year for the tree (no 2 ornaments are the same!)

I’m Catholic and my guy is Jewish. For the last 2 years we did a gift exchange on the 1st day of Hanukkah. This year we’re doing the gift exchange on Christmas day. He’s a reform Jew and so is his family so he always grew up with gift exchanges. We just got out 1st Christmas tree this year and I’m sure we’ll have it every year and just switch up the holidays we do the gift exchanges on.

We currently live with my parents so we will spend most of the day here, then go to my grandparents house, then go down to my FI’s parents house around 6pm or so and do the whole christmas thing down there. Unfortunatly its not very enjoyable since we are running around all day, but its what makes everyone happy. In the future when we get our own place I can see us just telling people to come to our house, so it is more enojoyable for my son.

Darling Husband and I decided that we’re going to keep a few traditions from each family, and make them our own.  But, we also decided that most of our traditions will wait until we have kids and we’ll spend the day with family.

Well at my parents house we always opened presents on Christmas Eve. Which to most people is probably very weird. So we go to my parents house on Christmas Eve then his parents house on Christmas Day. So it worked out very well that way.
